23 August – Buntingford 1-8 Letchworth

EAGLES stuck eight past Buntingford on Tuesday night in a display of excellent attacking football.

Harry Holland was the man most amongst the goals, helping himself to five against the newly-promoted opponents.

The striker on loan from Hitchin opened the scoring after 15 minutes, when a defensive mix up allowed him to sidestep the keeper and roll into an unguarded net.

Jas Genesis made it two, latching on to Ben L’Honore’s low centre to tap home from a yard.

Connor Pennery’s burst forward from defence was the catalyst for the third goal. He looked like he had overrun the ball but slid in to divert it to Holland who arrowed his shot past two defenders standing on the line.

In the second half, Eagles continued their dominance and went on to create more defences by exploiting Buntingford’s high and disorganised defensive line.

L’Honore got in on the act when Holland’s initial shot was foiled, though he was able to square for his strike partner to score his first goal for the club.

Holland broke the offside trap twice in quick succession to put the game to bed by the hour mark. First he rounded the keeper, then slotted home from the left side of the area. He got his fifth, and eighth in three games, when he took the sting off Joe Tyler’s shot and rammed in from close range.

Max Camp was able to pull one back for Buntingford when he drilled an accurate shot across Letchworth keeper Dan Goad. But Jack Gregson finished things off at the end by slamming in from six yards after a superb five man move.

Eagles now face St Peters away on Saturday, where they will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Team: Goad; McGennity, Garwood (Gregson), Brown, Pennery (Davis); Genesis (Sewell), Tyler, Pateman, Groves; Holland, L’Honore.
