EAGLES came from behind to cruise past a young St Peters side with a confident display, particularly in the second half.
The newly-promoted home side, who remain the only side in the league without a point, started brightly and deservedly went in front when Eames’ shot from the edge of the box clipped the post on its way in.
This acted as a wake-up call for Eagles, who had been finding it hard to deal with St Peters’ lively front three. Soon after, Lee Pateman had their first effort on goal when he latched on to John Coley’s pass, but his low shot was turned round the post.
Pateman was at the heart of Eagles’ equaliser, jinking past two men down the left and cutting back for Ben L’Honore to finish.
Eagles were now in the ascendency, but keeper Dan Eely had to be alert to spectacularly tip a rasping drive wide.
This was as good as it got for St Peters though, as Joe Tyler bundled in Connor Pennery’s free kick just before the break to give Eagles a 2-1 lead.
The second half was dominated by the away side, and they could have had their third when Coley’s volley was well saved. From the resulting corner though, Paul McGennity slid in and gave Eagles a two goal cushion.
Any hope St Peters had of getting back into the game was dashed when their midfielder reacted angrily to a Luke Garwood challenge by squaring up to the Eagles captain – an act which earned him a red card.
However, Eely had to make another excellent stop from a quickly taken free-kick before he collided with the post.
Tyler got his second on the hour mark when his fearsome volley from Pennery’s left-wing corner flashed into the roof of the net, giving the keeper no chance.
A fifth arrived from when Pateman exploited a gap in the home defence and strode through to slot into the corner.
Sub Jack Gregson got in on the act late on when he held off a challenge, dummied the keeper and chipped home.
Eagles are still unbeaten after four games and face Sarratt at Pixmore on Saturday.
