Letchworth Garden City Eagles 5 Cuffley 0
The Eagles started their new league programme in fine form despite missing several key players. Against a very physical Cuffley side the eagles struggled to find the net in the first half but hit the jackpot in the last half hour when the opposition crumbled. Harry Holland continued his goal scoring form from last season with 3 goals and veteran newcomer John Coley provided much of the ammunition.
In the first half Cuffley barely troubled eagles keeper Dan Eely, but all the Eagles had to show for their efforts was a Holland smash and grab goal after jack gregson had stund the goalieās hands with a fierce shot from 30 30 yards which he could only parry into the path of Holland.
Second half scored when Holland converted a cross from Coley, and then Holland scored the best goal of the game from a sweeping move begun on the right with long pass across to the left from Markus Brown to Jazz Genesis. Genesis made ground and his perfect cross was headed home from the penalty spot by Holland giving the Cuffley keeper no chance!
Eely had to make a fine one hand save to keep his goal intact before Jack Gregson then got on the score sheet, and in the last 5 mins Billy- Joe Sewell completed the scoring with the quirkiest goal of the afternoon. Sent clear about 40 yards out he opted to lob the ball over the head of the onrushing keeper. The ball soared skyward and then dropped just under the crossbar and bounced into the goal.
Overall a good start to the new season for the eagles
