New season, new league, new challenges, that was the message to the girls before the game. Eagles line up for the kick off facing Enfield with the two teams having never met before but looking confident, Enfield take the centre and immediately put us under pressure with some slick passing and a very quick front line, the first ten minutes the girls looked off the pace and struggled to get out of their own half which ended up with Enfield breaking quickly and punishing us with a goal. This seemed to spark Eagles into life and straight from the re-start we got into our passing game and attack Enfield with a bit more conviction playing from back to front gaining confidence all the time and opening up a few chances for ourselves. At times we still struggled with the speed of the front line and as a result forced our goalkeeper into some brave 1 v 1 saves, a tactical change made at the back sees the defence coping a lot better but just before the end of the first half we concede two more goals from two well worked set pieces that we failed to deal with.
Half time Eagles 3 – 0 down
After a quick team talk and the girls discussing what we could do to get back in the game they line up for the start of the second half, we take the centre and never look back. The defence worked very hard and are determined not to let Enfield through resulting in some great tackles and an amazing goal line clearance, the keeper pulling off a great save and contributing with some good distribution, the midfield battling for everything and combining well with the forwards, the strikers chasing down a strong defence and giving them no time to settle. The combined efforts of the whole team saw us create some very good chances and the girls were eventually rewarded with two well worked goals.
Full time 3-2 to Enfield truly a game of two halves.
