After Last week’s disappointing result the boys really put in a great effort today and the work they put in on the training pitch really paid off. The Oranges got right at Hormead from the off and their lovely passing game soon created chance after chance, but the Goalkeeper managed to get behind everything to keep the ball out of the net. The Eagles won a corner after a good move which the Hormead defence managed to clear out of the box only for the ball to drop to Quinlan who had a good shot with his left foot blocked, but when the rebound dropped to him again he made no mistake with a lovely right footed chip over the gaolie and last defender and into the top corner. 1-0. Hormead Hares came back strongly and they managed to nick an equaliser from a very dangerous corner which Brandon had to get something on to stop a definite goal, but unfortunately the ball dropped just inside the far post. 1-1. Letchworth kept playing their game and came very close to taking the lead through two cracking volleys by Thomas and Billy, but again the Hormead goalie was just able to keep the ball out. The Hormead Hares striker was put through one on one right at the end of the 1st half, but Elliott Lee stood up well and made a great save with his legs to keep the score at 1-1 going into the break. Excellent half boys!
Half time 1-1
The second half started very much like the 1st with the Oranges playing some lovely football and carving out some good opportunities. After a free flowing move Quinlan whipped in a dangerous cross which the Hares goalkeeper managed to parry out, But Ben Rose pounced at the back post to bury the ball into the back of the net. 2-1. Now the boys tails were up and the football played was great to watch. Billy dinked the ball past the defence and smashed a low cross across the box which the defenders scrambled away. But the ball dropped to Daniel on the edge of the box, and he calmly side stepped a challenge and thundered the ball into the roof of the net giving the goalie no chance. 3-1. Well-rehearsed celebration boys!! The Eagles were flying now, and after another great move Benjamin Daniels found himself racing past the last defender and he found the far corner with a lovely finish. 4-1. Hormead Hares were awarded a free-kick in a very dangerous area which Elliott Lee was able to parry away, the ball dropped in the six yard box and a goal mouth scramble followed which saw Elliott dive and gather the ball at the striker’s feet. Elliott then launched a long ball down field where the bounce deceived the Hormead defence and Joe was in. He carried the ball forward to the edge of the box and calmly slotted the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper and into the bottom corner. 5-1.
Full time 5-1
Well done boys a really impressive display by the whole team. Good to see the heading practice worked!
