U16 Yellows 2 Wymondley Park Firesharks 0

Always close games Yellows v Firesharks and this was no different but on the whole this was the yellows near their best and were easily the better team on this occasion. Indeed this was a game that had just about everything, 2 good goals. Great saves, fantastic respect, behaviour and competitive spirit between the two teams, and without doubt the worst example of a parents behaviour I’ve ever seen, the less said about him the better!!!

Firesharks have some big hitters but such was the intensity of the yellows midfield and the brilliant organisation and reading of the game by yellows back four, it was a full 70 mins before the firesharks first and only shot on target and that was superbly saved by Charlie’s telescopic arm. Knowing that they are the leagues top scorers by a mile that is a great achievment. Much of that goes down to superb midfield play by all in the middle of the yellows team but outstanding in that area was Tom whose energy in closing down and messing up the firesharks play was first class.

Big mentions must go to Adam and Jamie at the back along side Rhys and Ryan who all acted as a unit supperbly. Sam worked tirelessly up front as did Stevo who gave his best performance of the season. Jordan was a hell of an handful and Luke and Charlie picked up the pieces and used the ball really well. Steven worked his socks off and Alex was a thorn in the firesharks side the whole game.

It was 2 Alex Garbas goals in the first 20 mins sealed this win. Both as a result of well delivered corners causing panic in the sharks defence, but it could have been more and indeed Alex was sadly denied a first hat trick by a very late linesmans flag when he headed past the stranded sharks keeper. Seeing where Alex started his run from when the Adam’s free kick was in flight, the flag must have only been for another player.

One word for the ref who it has to said managed the game superbly in what is always between these teams, a tense atmosphere.

Since the Firesharks returned to the crow league at under 13 the record is now Yellows won 4, Firesharks 4, with 2 drawn. I think its fair to say these teams are very closely matched!!! Only in the last 10 mins of the first half did the sharks come in to the game but yellows quickly re-organised and ran out deserved winners. It is now a very open title race and many more big games to come.
