Whites A depleted Eagles U11s Whites side travel to Hatfield to earn three points.
The Eagles U11s Whites put in the performance of the season on Sunday to beat a robust Hatfield side 2-0 away. What made the score and the performance so impressive was that due to a mixture of illness and injuries we played the game with only 9 players. However the 2 player advantage was rarely evident throughout the game with the Eagles enjoying much of the possession. Adopting a makeshift 4-3-1 formation, the Eagles players knew before the game that they had an uphill task and would have to work flat out to compete in all key areas of the pitch. The coaches and the parents watching have never seen the players so united and committed to winning every tackle and linking up play with every player involved in the game. Our midfield were excellent and although outnumbered they always made the right decision at key moments and never panicked on the ball. Defensively strong with some superb goalkeeping the team were visibly growing in confidence with Jake and Luca having shots well saved.
Goalless at half time and after taking in a well deserved drink the players were clearly galvanised as a team to take the game to Hatfield in the second half. The breakthrough came half way through the second half when a decisive through ball from George put the tireless Jake through to score with a clinical low drive into the corner. This was quickly followed when Jake turned inside the box to fire a shot against the post which Harry collected to calmly tuck away passed the diving keeper for 2-0. A well organised Hatfield side didn’t give up and came back at Eagles and earned a controversial penalty late on but James didn’t flinch in goal and the penalty was missed. The final score was 2-0 and the Eagles were applauded from the pitch by parents along with genuine praise from the referee and the Hatfield coach for their work rate and sporting behaviour.
We couldn’t be more proud of all the players – well done!
