On Tuesday evening 23 August the eagles entertained Broxbourne, a level 6 club competing in the Spartan South Midland league, at the Hitchin Arena. Because a number of first team players were still not available for selection a very young team of mainly triallists and youth players under the guidance of new reserve team manager Ryan Brooke, took on the task of beating Broxbourne, who had earlier lost to Baldock 3-2 in a friendly fixture. The youngsters did not disappoint and played with great determination and no little skill against stronger opponents. In the first half both sides struggled to make progress in the final third of the pitch and both goalkeepers kept a clean sheet until about 10 minutes before half term Broxbourne made the break through to score a well worked goal.
After half time the Eagles came out fighting and equalised through an own goal, but did threaten to get a winner, without success. A 1-1 draw was still a credible result against more experienced opponents.
On Saturday 28 July the Eagles more than met their match by fielding a young reserve side against Cuffley, opponents in the same division of the HSCL next season. By half time they were 2-0 down and not really looking to threaten their opponents superiority in the air, scoring with 2 headers from set piece crosses. Hope briefly flickered after half time when Sam Day scored a cracking goal, but then the eagles ran out of steam and conceded 3 more goals to lose 5-1, a result that flattered Cuffley perhaps
