On Saturday 21 July Eagles made the long trip to visit Spinxworth FC, who are based close toNorwich. Because of work commitments of some senior players and the recent loss of several senior players to neighbouring clubs in the area the eagles were forced to field a team largely made up of young triallists, captained by Mitchell Cox. In the first half both teams failed to really damage the opposition for the first 15 minutes, before the home team broke through the middle of the field and scored with an easy one on one . Two more goals followed as veteran Jason Valentine struggled to introduce order into the back line, but for 15 minutes before half time they enjoyed a lot of possession and scored goals by young triallist Jordan, who was a real handful for Spinxworth the whole afternoon, and a blast into an open net by new boy Deano.
Second half was played at a good pace in very sunny conditions. Eagles experimented with a number of new players but the more experienced and stronger players from Spinxworth ran in more goals to finish fortunate winners 7-2. Eagles hit the posts twice, had 2 shots cleared off the line by defenders, and hit the bar, so the result truly flattered the home side. Goalie Dan Goade produce some fine saves to keep the Eagles in the hunt until the last quarter, and none of the players gave up running in the cause. Definite good signs for the future despite the result.
Next game is against Broxbourne at Hitchin Arena this coming Tuesday evening 7.30 pm ko
