Our under 9’s made up of a mix of Danny Ryan and George Mavro’s teams reached the final of the Dunstable Town Football Tournament on Saturday September 1st. After finishing 3rd in their group they found themselves in the playoffs which they came through 1-0. Another 1-0 win in the quarter finals found them up against a very strong Stotfold team. After a brilliant display they were able to get a 0-0 draw which took them to penalties.
Charles the goalkeeper, who was outstanding throughout this long day, saved the second penalty which put them into the final. The team was fired up for this one and badly wanted to win, but unfortunately the long day took its toll, the team was tired and they were beaten 2-0. The team showed what it meant to them, some were in tears. But they should hold their heads up high, runners up on their first competitive tournament is not a bad start to the season. Paul Mavro was also named player of the final. Well done to all the boys who took part and to George Mavro and Simon Matthews for managing and coaching them on the day.
