Eagles hit 10 without reply
The Eagles gorged themselves on goals at the expense of lowly Sandridge, who were clearly lacking in confidence after some poor results recently. Although he failed to score JJ Brown had another magnificent game leading the line, and his last performance for the Eagles before joining Peterborough United on professional terms was a joy to watch. His speed and movement had the visitors on the back foot the whole game.
Eagles took the lead within the first 5 minutes when JJ Brown laid off the ball to Mitchell Cox who headed in from 8 yards. Sandridge immediately responded and Eagles keeper Dan Goad had to race to the edge of his penalty area to block a shot from the edge of the box as a Sandridge forward raced clear of the Eagles defence.. JJ almost scored himself shooting narrowly wide after receiving the ball from a throw in, but after 25 minutes eagles scored their second when a shot from Krystian Malachak was headed in spectacularly by Cox with a diving header.. Malachak himself then scored after a scramble in the Sandridge penalty area and after 35 minutes the 4th arrived when Sam Gittings broke clear on the left , beat several defenders before squaring the ball across the penalty are for Malachak to score with a simple tap in from a couple of yards at the far post. He got his hat trick of goals after a few more minutes when Cox danced through a static Sandridge defence to lay the ball across for another simple goal at the far post.
Just before half time JJ tried to chip the keeper from 25 yards but the ball dropped agonisingly wide . He then beat the Sandridge offside trap but his weak shot was easily collected by the keeper. Hunter Diack then completed the scoring with a close range tap in to make it 6-0 at half time .
After half time Eagles kept up the pressure . Shane Carthy blasted wide from 20 yards when well placed and having beaten several defenders JJ shot straight at the keeper. The next goal eventually game after 65 minutes when a corner from Cox was headed in by sub Ben L’Honore from the penalty spot. Cox then scored soon after taking a pass from JJ and firing in from the penalty spot. After missing 2 good chances to score after 77 minutes sub Jamie Farrar walked through the Sandridge defence to place the ball in an empty net as the visitors tired and began to fall apart. Apart from a direct free kick from about 25 yards which went narrowly wide, they did not offer much more resistance, and Shane Carthy made it 10 when he raced down the middle, rounded the keeper and coolly passed the ball into the net from a few yards out a few minutes from the end .
