Baldock were too strong for the Eagles in a long awaited and strongly contested game at Pixmore.
Hardly had the game started when Baldock went ahead. After 5 minutes Eagles keeper Dan Goad beat out a shot from 12 yards , a second attempt was cleared off the line by a defender, but finally Scott Rennie fired home the rebound.
Eagles were slow to settle and committed a number of fouls in the centre of the field which produced no real attacking threat from Baldock, who almost scored again after 30 minutes when Sam Williams produced a great saving tackle just as a Baldock attacker was about to pull the trigger with keeper Goad beaten. Eagles had a few half chances but nothing troubled Baldock keeper Stilwell before half time.
Eagles came out again with a much improved performance second half and began to put pressure on the visitors. This was rewarded in the 60th minute when a cross from the right was headed on by Ben L’Honore into the path of newly signed striker Dami Jabiola who made no mistake with a crisp shot from 10 yards into goal.
Eagles then sat back and Baldock responded with a period of sustained pressure creating several good chances before springing the offside trap and scoring with a superb shot into the top corner from the penalty spot which gave Goad no chance.
Ben L’Honore caused Baldock some problems shortly after spinning away from a defender but failed to get his shot away when well placed, but Baldock continued to press for the killer goal. The eagles goal led a charmed life at times, with one goal bound shot hitting an Eagles defender in the back with the goal gaping, but in the 80th minute Baldock earned a penalty when Den Crook brought down an opponent just inside the penalty area. A poor penalty was placed a foot wide of the post.
In the 90 th minute Baldock finally sealed the game when Goad parried but failed to hold a shot from the edge of the penalty area giving the visitors the chance of a simple tap in at the far post.
