ANAGRAM RECORDS TROPHY 1st ROUND
Eagles bad run continues when they fielded a weakened side against Spartan South Midland div 1 Risborough Rangers and were soundly beaten 5-0.
Eagles started brightly and after 8 minutes should have gone ahead when Sam Gittings dribbled through defenders but shot too close to the keeper from a few yards out and the goal attempt was blocked. A few minutes later Rangers swept to the other end of the pitch and rattled the eagles goalpost with a shot from the edge of the area which had keeper Dan Goad well beaten.. A few minutes later Rangers hit the bar and although the rebound was banged into the net it was disallowed for offside.
The no11 for Rangers was a constant danger having both pace and accuracy and after 20 minutes the first goal for the home team finally came when Lewis Mitchell made rare mistake heading a clearance to a Rangers player who gave Goad no chance from near the penalty spot.
On the half hour Goad managed to turn a deflected shot around the post as Rangers continued to press and eagles forwards failed to trouble the Rangers keeper.. Risborough then went 2-0 ahead when a low cross from the left touchline was turned into the net from a couple of yards out with Eagles defenders all at sea.
Goad made another smart stop from 10 yards and eagles just could not find a way through the Rangers defence. Mitchell did sterling work at the back to keep the half time score to 2-0.
Goad was soon in action again after half time pushing away a shot after Chris Scott miskicked a clearance and after 55 minutes the third goal arrived when another excellent cross was hit home from near the penalty spot.
Eagles continued to toil hard in defence but seldom threatened in the final third. A shot from Mitch Cox from 20 yards after 65 minutes waswellstruck but straight at the keeper..Eagles continued to battle until 80 minutes when a free kick on the right from a foul by Lewis Mitchell was scrambled into the Eagles net from a few yards out.. Rangers then got a fifth goal with probably the best effort of the day when a cormer was met on the volley giving Goad no chance from 12 yards.
Eagles almost got a consolation goal a few minutes from time with a flowing move but Gurdip Kandola hit the ball just over the bar. An overhead kick by Cox was then safely gathered by the Rangers keeper as eagles tried to finish on a higher note.
