CECIL HUDSON CUP 2ND ROUND
A young Eagles reserve side survived a difficult first half on an uneven pitch to emerge as easy victors in this cup game, when the home side ran out of energy and ideas once Eagles had struck with 2 second half goals.
The first half started with neither side really creating a decent goal scoring chance but on 20 minutes eagles got their noses in front with a slick goal from Lewis Curtis who struck a low cross from the left first time into the net from close to the penalty spot. Kimpton responded and should have scored a few minutes later when eagles defence was slow to close down an attack, but the ball was blasted over the eagles bar. Kimpton did however equalise on the half hour with eagles defence again all at sea. Keeper Chris Paige beat out a shot from a few yards out but the ball went back to Kimpton and another low shot eventually found the net off the keeper’s body.
On 40 minutes Kimpton nearly got a second when a shot from inside the penalty area hit the bar after a deflection by a defender, but Eagles rode their luck and nearly got a second themselves when Mlee Wooding- Acquart shot just wide of the post from 12 yards with the keeper beaten.
After half time eagles stepped up the pressure and the Kimpton keeper soon had to make a good blocking save after a corner was struck towards goal .Eagles then hit a purple patch. First Wooding-Acquart missed a clear chance breaking down the centre and with only the keeper to beat, found his body with the ball instead of the net, but after 57 minutes the same player finally scored finishing off a low cross from the left from 10 yards.
Within a couple of minutes it was 3-`1 to the eagles when Mitch Cox shot from 20 yards at the left corner of the penalty area to find the top corner of the net at the far post.. He then blazed well over the ball from outside of the penalty area after Jon Butler had missed a good chance down the centre of the field. Cox did however, get his second goal after the Kimpton keeper parried a shot into his path and the ball was shot home from 10 yards
The scoring was completed after 70 minutes when a cross from Ryan O ‘Mahony was headed home from close range by Wooding- Acquart.
