Eagles made hard work of the game against high flying Bedmond, who were reduced to 10 men after the first quarter of an hour, had the manager red carded and in the second half went down to 9 men.
Both sides started cautiously until after 10 minutes Bedmond broke clear down the centre of the field from a long ball out of defence. Fortunately for the Eagles the no 9 lacked pace and control and was eventually dispossessed by a chasing James Farrar and Sam Williams. Not long after there was a brief confrontation between Eagles’ Ricky Small and a Bedmond player, another Bedmond player jumped in to manhandle Small away and then got his marching orders.
Sam Gittings almost scored the first goal after 23 minutes but his shot rebounded from the keeper and although Carl Williams was given a clear shot on goal from near the penalty spot the striker shot tamely straight at the keeper.. He almost made up for the miss 10 minutes later when the ball was taken off his toe as he shaped to shoot having made a good run down the centre, and then he failed to properly connect to a cross from Charlie Joy from a few yards out.
Up to this point Eagles keeper Dan Goad was almost a spectator but on 40 minutes he had to be alert to make a smart save at the foot of his post following a quick break by Bedmond. He was also called into action on the stroke of half time when a Bedmond attacker got clear of defenders down the centre but placed his low shot wide of the onrushing keeper and the goal.
After half time eagles stepped up the pressure and it was no surprise when they finally went ahead on 60 minutes when Carl Williams crashed a cross from Gittings high into the net from a few yards out. Things then got worse for Bedmond when another player was sent off ( this time for 2 cautions) and eagles took full advantage of the 2 extra players. Gittings netted twice only to have the efforts ruled out for offside, and he then blazed high over the bar when having a clear shot on goal from inside the penalty area.
Eagles were however not to be denied and 10 minutes from time Ricky Small netted from close range after the ball had pinged around the Bedmond penalty area
Sub Louis Curtis shot just wide of the post when clear on the right side of the penalty area, before Gittings finally got his reward for another hard working display by running on to a pass from David Locke and toe poking the ball into the net past the onrushing keeper.
Win 6 wins out of six in 2014 this win gives the eagles a great a chance for a storming end to the season.
