HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Eagles just failed to overcome a 4-1 half time deficit in a thrilling end of season game at Pixmore against Bushey FC.
In the first quarter of an hour neither side created any scoring opportunities but Bushey gave a warning on 17 minutes when a low corner evaded both defenders and attackers and passed a few yards wide of the far post. A few minutes later they did go ahead when a ball from the left was shot wide of an exposed debut keeper Callum Rodgers from near the penalty spot.. Eagles surged back and on the half hour got an equalising goal when Den Crook headed in a cross. A few minutes later Sam Gittings almost added a second when he chased a long ball down the centre, only for the keeper to make a good blocking save with his body..
A few minutes later Bushey went ahead again with a hotly disputed ‘ offside’ goal in the eyes of most spectatorswith the assistant referee well behind play, and then it was 3-1 with another similar goal which Eagles also claimed was offside. Eagles then had a strong penalty appeal turned down for a foul in the penalty area, and when a fourth goal was scored on 40 minutes Eagles manager Roy Boon lost his cool and was sent off by the match referee for directing foul and abusive language towards the offending assistant referee.
Eagles came out fighting in the second half and dominated play for long periods. After 47 minutes a speculative lobbed shot by Carl Williams from some 35 yards distance with the keeper well out of his goal, went wide, and then Den Crook headed a free kick just over the bar.. Gittings almost headed in a free kick from Charlie Joy but directed the ball too close to the keeper, but on 55 minutes Williams got his reward for a lot of hard running when he scored from a couple yards from a free kick headed on by Crook.
Eagles continued to pound the Bushey goal and a Crook header was ruled offside before they scored a third goal on 65 minutes when Krystain Malachak scored with a crisp low shot from 15 yards..
Williams headed over a cross from sub Jason Valentine, and then the Bushey keeper turned a header by Gittings from a Joy corner just over the crossbar.
Bushey seldom got out of their half but on 70minutes scored the vital next goal with an undisputed penalty following a reckless challenge in the penalty area.
Eagles continued to press in the last 10 minutes with Gittings again nearly getting a well deserved goal with a shot just wide, and then the visiting keeper made a superb save from Williams , and blocked with his feet a shot by Malachak. In the dying minutes of added time Crook again got forward to head a cross just wide and in the end Bushey hung on to a victory when a draw would have been a fairer result and reflection of the game.
