HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREM DIVISION
Eagles finished their league programme with a disappointing result against fellow mid table team Cuffley. Still weakened by injuries and the absence of some key first team players Eagles put up a good fight but were undone by a couple of bad defensive errors.
Eagles went behind after just a few minutes when keeper Dan Goad first made a good save from a goal bound shot but then fumbled the ball from a cross, the ball dropping over his head into the net.
Within 10 minutes it was all square when Mykee Wooding-Acquart pushed in a cross from Dami Fajiobi but within minutes Cuffley regained the lead when Michael Deacon attempted to pass the ball back to his keeper from the edge of the penalty area but only succeeded in flashing the ball into the net giving Goad no chance.
Play then settled down with neither side creating clear goal scoring chances until 40 minutes when a free kick by Cuffley was headed towards the bottom corner of the net and Goad flung himself to push the ball round the post.
5 minutes after half time Eagles equalised with another bizarre own goal when a Cuffley defender deflected a cross from Scott Gilzean into the top corner of the net. Eagles then had further half chances falling to Fajiobi with a shot deflected wide, and Wooding- Acquart with a shot over the bar when well placed, but on 64 minutes Cuffley got a third goal when a cross was hit home from near the penalty spot against the run of play.
Eagles tried to fight back and Jason valentine shot over the bar when well placed inside the penalty area and put clear by Hunter Diack. On 73 minutes Eagles keeper had to make a great save to stop a shot from the edge of the penalty area which he pushed on the cross bar for a corner. Within minutes he was then beaten by a low shot from 15 yards through a line of defenders into the far corner leaving him to see the ball too late to make a save. Diack almost got a goal back but his shot was well saved by the Cuffley keeper.
