Eagles started well but could not press home their half time advantage and tired in the second half, conceding 2 goals and having to share the points.
In the first 10 minutes eagles pressed well and John Coley was unlucky to hit the cross bar from 16 yards after dribbling through Sarratt defenders on the edge of the penalty area. A Sam Gittings shot was parried by the keeper but on 10 minutes a scramble in the Sarratt penalty resulted in the ball looping off a defender into the corner of the net for a fortunate own goal to the Eagles.
In 20 minutes it was 2-0 when leading scorer Gittings squirmed through the Sarratt defence on the left side and his low shot took a slight deflection through defenders’ legs into the corner of the net.Eagles pressed for a killer third goal and a Hunter Diack shot from 20 yards just cleared the Sarratt crossbar, but Sarratt fought back and Eagles keeper Dan Goad had to turn a close range header round the post on the half hour.
Play swung from end to end. A Gittings shot was too close to the keeper who managed to gather it low down, and almost on half time Sarratt broke down the middle but from the edge of the area the ball was put well over the eagles cross bar. Den Crook then hooked away a cross which had eluded Goad with the goal gaping and then a long ball over the top of the Eagles defence was only just stopped by Goad on the edge of the penalty in a race with the onrushing Sarratt forward..
After half time play settled back into a pattern with neither side taking clear cut chances. Mitch Cox placed a cross from Gittings wide of a post from edge of the penalty area and Sarratt responded when a cross from the left was side footed high over the eagles cross bar from a few yards out.
Goad was having to work hard to keep his goal intact and after 65 minutes made a great save from a shot from near the penalty spot when Eagles defenders failed to close down the Sarratt player. Sarratt employed the long ball over the top of the Eagles defence to good effect and after constant pressure it was not surprising when a goal eventually arrived with a fortunate penalty decision. Lewis Mitchell was deemed to have fouled an opponent about 10 yards from goal by the match referee despite protests from Eagles players. Goad managed to get a hand to the hard struck penalty but was unable to stop the ball going in to the net.
After 80 minutes Sarratt got a deserved equaliser when a cross was side footed home from close range and Eagles defenders were all at sea. This heralded a strong finish from the home side, but eagles managed to hold on for a point with Goad again coming to the rescue parrying a shot from edge of the area after another long ball down the centre. Eagles almost pinched the points with 2 direct free kicks from Mitch Cox, which went wide of the target..
