Eagles made a slow start to the game against league leaders Whitwell who had knocked 12 past Bedmond Sports and Social Club the previous Saturday. Within the first 10 minutes they were 2 goals down both coming from balls down the left side . The first after just a few minutes came from a well struck shot from 12 yards that fizzed inside the near post, and the second from a similar position as Eagles makeshift back line gave Whitwell far too much room.
After 30 minutes it was 3-0 with a cracking 20 yard drive into the top of the net giving keeper Chris Paige no chance. Eagles hardly mustered a shot on target in the first half and a heavy defeat looked likely.
After half time Eagles improved considerably and on the hour Michael Deacon reduced the deficit with a great hit from 20 yards. Shortly after Sam Gittings continued his goal scoring form by getting a second and eagles pressed hard for the equaliser. Whitwell defence held firm and they were dangerous with long balls done the centre and the flanks. They would gave got a fourth when through on goal with only the keeper to beat but Paige made a great save to parry the ball and Alex Bickerstaff kicked it off the Eagles line.
A game of two halves but with Eagles missing key defenders because of work commitments or injury it was perhaps not surprising that high flying Whitwell with 4 successive wins eventually came out on top
