Eagles reached their second cup final of the season with a comfortable victory over Cuffley, who rarely threatened the Eagles goal until the closing minutes of the game.
Eagles started really strongly and within minutes Sam Gittings shot low towards near post from a tight angle but it was blocked by the Cuffley keeper, who then saved a low shot from Shane Carthy . Cuffley almost scored with their first attempt on goal when a deflected shot from the edge of the Eagles penalty area screwed just wide of a post with keeper Dan Goad desperately diving across his goal.
Dami Fajobi then made a mazy run down the left and Ricky Small slammed his cross towards the top corner of the net, producing a great save by the keeper. Eagles were not to be denied and after 20 minutes deservedly took the lead when Gittings outpaced a defender, rounded the keeper and placed the ball low into the net from a few yards out.
Eagles continued to press and Anthony Geary almost got reward for a hard working performance, but his shot from the edge of the penalty area just cleared the top corner of the Cuffley net.. Soon after he blasted a low shot a foot wide of the post when Cuffley failed to clear their defensive lines.
The second goal finally came after 35 minutes. Gittings was pulled back by his shirt on the edge of the penalty area and Mitch Cox floated the free kick wide of the defensive wall and into the corner of the net. Cuffley threatened in fits and starts but their best effort came from a long throw in which Goad was unable to punch clear from a group of players and the final shot was well wide of an open Eagles goal.
In the second half Eagles continued to dominate possession. After a few minutes Gittings broke clear of the Cuffley defence but his strong cross shot from an angle went just wide. After an hour it was 3-0 and game over. Cox threaded a pass through to Lee Pateman who made no mistake with a low shot into the corner of the net from 15 yards, his first for the club since rejoining it this season.
Gittings almost got a second goal when he chased a long ball down the centre of the field but was just beaten to the ball by the keeper advancing well outside his penalty area. In a goal mouth scramble several Eagles players tried to force the ball home before it was finally cleared upfield. When it was returned back into the Cuffley penalty area Gittings volleyed the ball just wide of a post. Eagles dominated the game but just could not create shots on target. After 75 minutes Geary sprinted down the centre of the field from his own half, outpacing defenders before placing his shot just wide of a post with the keeper well beaten.
In the last few minutes Cuffley were unlucky not to get a consolation goal. Eagles keeper Goad had to clutch the ball headed just under the cross bar from near the penalty spot, and he then made a great diving save to deflect a headed corner from finding the top corner of his net. In the dying minutes of the game he had to hurriedly dive on the ball at the foot of a post in a goal mouth scramble , but by then Eagles had done enough to reach another cup final when they will play White Ensign FC, at the County ground Letchworth.
