MATCH REPORT SATURDAY 18 APRIL 2015
HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Eagles managed a comfortable win over Sarratt after scoring 2 early goals.
The first came after 10 minutes when the ball was not cleared by the Sarratt defence and Ricky Small fired a low shot into the corner of the net from 10 yards out. This was followed a few minutes later by a second goal when a long pass out of defence by Paul Morris was headed on by Small to Mitch Cox who raced clear of defenders and easily placed a low shot wide of the visiting keeper.
Such was the dominance of the Eagles that home keeper Michael Johnson, on loan from Hitchin Town, was not called into action until the half hour when he had to get down quickly to smother a low cross from the left. Eagles continued to press but failed to take any half chances before the break so the score remained unchanged.
They soon made their mark in the second half when a shot from Cox was tipped wide of a post by the Sarratt keeper. Subsequent goal attempts were on target but failed to trouble the keeper .After 75 minutes substitute Dami Fajobi collected the ball near the half way line, ran past several static defenders and crossed the ball to an unmarked Gittings who headed the ball just over the crossbar. Gittings then chased a long ball down the centre of the field as the visiting defence tired but was just beaten to the ball by the keeper who was quick to come off his line. As the eagles piled on the pressure Fajobi then got a superb goal when he again raced clear of the Sarratt defence and this time calmy lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper and into the net. Soon afterwards he almost got a second goal with a mazy dribble through a clutch of defenders but he lost control of the ball a few yards from goal and the chance was lost.
