HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE
Eagles got back to winning ways with a strong performance against a poor Wormley side, helped by a hat trick of goals by leading scorer Charlie Thake.
The first goal came after just 10 minutes when defender Paul Mc Gennity headed in a corner, and 10 minutes later Charlie Thake banged in a cross from Sam Gittings. Thake got his second when a high clearance from keeper Dan Goad cleared the Wormley defence and Thake chased the ball down the centre and chipped it over the home keeper.
Eagles then sat back and became complacent, conceding two goals in a similar fashion of high balls over the top of an advanced defensive line. After half time it was all eagles as they pressed to make the game safe. First Thake got his hat trick from a shot following a corner which caught a deflection into the net, and then Carl Williams scored easily from a pass by Shane Carthy.
The icing on the Eagles cake came late in the game when a high cross from full back Kier Boyd sailed over the keeper into the net.
The win pushes Eagles up to second place in the league table on a day of many postponements because of the wet weather, but their chance to improve their goal difference next Saturday against bottom club Old Parmiterians disappeared when the club folded last week.
