HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREM DIVISION
Missed chances and defensive errors led to a comprehensive defeat for the eagles by a Standon side who look certain league winners after half time.
Eagles went behind as early as the first 10 minutes when keeper Dan Goad failed to gather or punch away a cross and the ball went through his hands to a waiting Standon forward who netted easily from close range into an open goal. Shortly after Eagles defence hesitated waiting for an offside decision that never came and a low cross skimmed across their penalty area with no Standon player around to apply the finishing touch. On the half hour it was 2-0 to the visitors with the best goal of the game. The ball was played down the centre of the field and as he ran on to the ball the Standon forward let fly a volley from 25 yards which flew into the top of the net giving Goad no chance.Eagles had their chances but failed to finish, the best probably falling to Sam Gittings who shot high over the cross bar from a few yards out..
Soon after half time it was 3-0 after a mix up between Eagles defenders each leaving the ball to the other allowing Standon to nip in and scuff the ball into the net with Goad out of position. Then it was 4-0 after Eagles failed to properly clear a corner. Goad made a great save with his feet but the ball came straight back to Standon who scored easily.
Both sides tried to create further scoring chances as the light faded but the visitors were happy to see the game out. Eagles leaky defence of recent weeks had let them down again and will need to show great improvement over coming weeks if they are to make a top 3 place in the league this season.
