After a shaky start when Hatfield could easily have scored Eagles piled on the pressure and hit a young Hatfield side for six.
Eagles had to thank keeper Bradley Gillham for keeping a clean sheet in the first 15 minutes. Twice he had to dash out of goal to collect the ball from the feet of an onrushing forward, and a shot from 20 yards whistled just past his post. He then dived to save another shot at the foot of a post.
Eagles weathered the storm and went ahead after 15 minutes with a magnificent goal from captain Carl Williams. He collected the ball about 30 yards from goal, looked up and saw the home keeper outside his goal area, and calmly chipped the ball over his head and into the roof of the net.
Hatfield responded with long distance efforts straight at the keeper and Eagles went further ahead when Den Crook hit a low free kick past the defensive wall, the keeper pushed the ball out at the foot of a post only for Iggy Thorne to follow up and hit the loose ball into the roof of the net from close range. Just before half time a delicate chip shot from 25 yards by Liam Huckle beat the keeper but hit the Hatfield crossbar.
Hatfield again started a half better after the interval and Gillham had to make a great save to parry a shot from 8 yards when Eagles defence failed to clear the ball, leaving Hatfield with an open goal to aim at. Thorne then dribbled through the home defence but his shot for the top corner of the net was superbly saved by the keeper. Respite was short for Social because Joe Humphries soon shot low into the net from just inside the penalty area.
Hatfield resistance crumbled and Thorne got his second goal with another run through a static defence and shot into the corner of the net. Gillham had to make another excellent save at the foot of a post from a shot from 10 yards as Hatfield tried to respond, but new signing Josh Bodani scored a fifth eagles goal with a low shot from 10 yards. Eagles conceded a sloppy goal 10 minutes from the end when Jamie Farrar fouled his opponent on the edge of the Eagles penalty area and the low free kick evaded the wall and found the corner of the net, giving Gillham no chance.
Play swung back to the other end and Bodani almost got his second when he dribbled through the Hatfield defence but was thwarted by the home keeper..Eagles finished the scoring a few minutes from the end with another fine goal. Crook blasted the ball into the top corner from 25 yards after being given far too much room by a tiring Hatfield side.
