ANAGRAM RECORDS TROPHY 1ST ROUND
Eagles recovered from a poor start to totally overwhelm their opponents in the second half, and could have easily reached double figures but for some poor finishing.
The strong blustery wind did not help players but Eagles showed early weakness down the right flank and were lucky not to go behind as early as 10 minutes when a throw in was not defended and a London Ranger forward was left in clear space facing goal. His low shot clipped the far post with keeper Paul McGennity beaten. Eagles escaped but they did not heed the warning and a few minutes later went behind from an almost identical position.
Eagles worked hard without showing any serious threat to goal until after 20 minutes Iggy Thorne worked his way through a static defence and crossed into the ball of James Endacott who comfortably side footed the ball into the net from near the penalty spot. Eagles then had a goal disallowed for offside after good work from River Amis-Robinson before almost conceding again when McGennity was slow to react to a back pass and was forced to make an excellent save to parry a goal bound shot, before the ball was hacked away by Dami Fajobi.
On the half hour Eagles went ahead after Joe Tyler was fouled just outside the penalty area. Endacott took a quick free kick and planted the ball into an empty net as Rangers defenders were trying to sort out a defensive wall. Eagles then turned on the heat. Amis- Robinson blasted a shot high and wide when well placed and Sam Nicholls netted with a low shot after another surging run by Thorne, only to be ruled offside. Amis-Robinson then chased a long ball down the centre and forced the keeper to concede a corner in a race to the ball.
After half time Eagles soon surged ahead when Scott Piggott finished a slick passing movement from close range. He then provided a cross to Endacott unmarked at the far post, but he headed wide of goal. The keeper was in constant action as he pawed away a shot from Craig Cawcutt, who soon after collected a pass from Amis-Robinson and scored easily from 6 yards. Another cross by Amis-Robinson to the far post was headed wide of an open goal by Thorne, and Cawcutt then shot wide from 10 yards. Piggott shot into the side netting from a few yards out when he looked to score from an angle, but then chased a long ball down the centre, rounded a defender and the keeper, and placed the ball into an empty net as Eagles attacked at will. Piggott hit the post with a shot and the keeper saved from Fajobi.
As full time approached sub Adam Illingworth scored, Endacott scored his hat trick with a shot from a tight angle and Amis- Robinson scored from close range after receiving a pass from Joe Tyler
