Match Reports – Season 2006-7
17th March 2007 v Royston Town Colts
Nice start by Eagles with good passing between Alfie B, Harry & Max. Colts get an early throw on and put in first real attack of the game to test Josh, who is equal to the shot. Aaron passes to Ben to Max and forces an error from the Colts to earn a throw which we can't capitalise on. Ben and Alfie B both cover the balls coming into their areas and working really hard to service the strikers. Colts push up and force a corner kick which they take, Eagles lucky as they see the ball go across the face of goal. Some short passing by Eagles lets Colts in on goal again and they see a shot just go wide. Eagles are settling down and Ben does a lovely pass to Max who races up the pitch but sees his shot blocked by the Colts. Straight away Aaron and Alfie are called upon to defend deep as we see a shot almost go in but Josh just manages to get a hand to it to keep it out. Aiden is getting in some really nicely timed challenges and you can see the difference this week as he gets the ball out of the danger areas and is always running back to cover. Game is fast and Colts get their reward for persistence 1-0 Colts. We see another 2-3 attempts on gaol by the Colts and Josh does well to make himself look big in his goal and does enough to make them shoot wide. Eagles still continue to push and max finally get away from the defenders and do a lovely run in on goal, shoots and equalize 1-1! Half time blows.
Whilst this half did not produce any goals what it did do was show was that when they think about their passing they do so brilliantly. Josh was tested on a number of occasions but was helped by Stuart and Aiden keeping out the Colts strikers. Both teams showed some excellent skills and a number of spectators commented on what a good game it was to watch. Final whistle and a well deserved draw 1-1
GAME 2
Stuart straight in with an interception from a Colts attack and manages to pass to Carlos who takes it down the wing. Some nice passes between Josh G, Alfie and Carlos who runs the ball out of play. Carlos quick pace means he can run back and manages to defend an attack forcing a corner kick which Colts send behind the goal. Dylan is called upon to challenge some nicely worked passes by Colts which he does well and manages to get the ball up field to Jamie who is unlucky as he is surrounded by two Colts players who hustle the ball out. Colts in this match are quick to make their point and work hard to penetrate the Eagles defence and get a goal in last minute of first half 1-0.
Dylan wastes no time on getting stuck in and using his strength to push the ball through a couple of Colts players to Carlos who has the first shot on goal. Eagles are looking sharp and start a well worked piece of play starting with a throw in for the Eagles with Aaron passing up to Harry who run up the field and decided to take a shot from outside the box into the net for the equalizer 1-1. Colts start to look for their second and Eagles put in three separate good blocks by Jamie, Josh G & Dylan to keep them out. Eagles earn a corner kick which Dylan takes but Eagles cannot make it count as Colts clear the line. From the half way line Max takes the ball and shows some excellent skill as he homes in on the goal, just as he is about to shoot the ball is taken off his foot, by one of his own team! Very unlucky as I am sure he would have scored. Final minute see Jamie with two crucial tackles and Max finishes off with another run as the whistle blows. A well deserved 1-1

10th March 2007 v St Neots
Game off to a quick start with Jamie straight away putting in a challenge as St Neots start to penetrate our defence. Josh kicks out the ball but St Neots are quicker to the ball then Eagles and put in a strike straight away which Josh pushes away for a corner kick. St Neots take and Aiden does a lovely block to stop a shot on goal. Eagles are defending very deep and having not luck in getting the ball up to Max. Eagles continue to soak up the pressure but you sense it won’t be long until their goal comes. Stuart takes on three players and kicks the ball out of play to buy some time for Eagles to reorganise at the back. St Neots take the throw on and Stuart goes down in his own box and is judged to have handled the ball, penalty. St Neots place the ball and score 1-0.
Eagles continue to keep their heads up and start to now push through the St Neots players with Harry passing to Max where upon 3 players immediately surround him, so no way through. Ball is straight back down with Aaron trying to intercept but St Neots too fast and hit a shot into the side netting. Josh passes out to Ben to Harry to max who shoots but it is saved! Half time whistle blows 1-0.
Second half starts as fast as the first with Harry having to defend and taking the ball out for a St Neots corner kick which Josh smothers. He quickly then spots Carlos who zips down the line and is unlucky as the ball goes out of play. This display fires the boys into passing more consistently and Max manages to get a shot on goal and is so unlucky not to equalize. Almost immediately he does a lovely turn to lose his marker and unfortunate not to get in on goal. Soon after St Neots have several attempts on goal including hitting the woodwork and Eagles are lucky not to concede but with some defending with Stuart, Aiden and Aaron we manage to get the ball out and Carlos has a fantastic effort go just wide. Final whistle and game ends with Eagles losing 1-0 but a thrilling game.
Game 2
Jamie repeats his first game start by chasing the ball down and puts in a very strong challenge which lets the St Neots player know he means business! St Neots have two attempts on goal within the first few minutes and Josh manages to smother all of them. Stuart protects his area and the ball from oncoming St Neots player and puts it out for a corner kick. Eagles fail to clear the ball and St Neots the opportunity to score which they waste no time in doing. Ball played up the field and Alfie B puts in a brilliantly timed challenge, but Eagles still struggling to clear. Final couple of minute of first half are spend defending deep and Josh clearing a number of attempts on goal. Half time 1-0
St Neots waste no time in pushing hard for their second goal and blast a shot just wide as soon as the whistle blows! Eagles defend 2 successive corner kicks which Josh and Dylan manage to clear off the line. Jamie takes the ball from a good clearance by Josh up the field but no one there to help support as Alfie B is surrounded by two players making it difficult to get a shot on goal but he is constantly trying to lose his marker to find the space. St Neots are much quicker to the ball and Eagles see a second goal hit the net 2-0. Josh tries to block an attack but a nice pass by St Neots see a third added almost a minute later 3-0. Eagles continue to push forward with all the team working hard but just can't get through and final whistle goes, 3-0

LGCE Whites V KNEBWORTH 3RD MARCH
MATCH 1
Knebworth waste no time in making their intentions known on what sort of game this would be. Fast, direct and full on. Within moments Josh is under attack from a very lively Knebworth team who do not have any let up on their attacking mode. Within minutes LGCE are 1-0 down. Most of the Eagles fall back and are basically working to stop the number of attacks that Knebworth are making, but they are quicker to the ball and show a greater desire to win every ball. Ben & Aaron try to push the ball up field but Knebworth intercept and let off another shot resulting in a second goal 0-2. Eagles need to tighten up but make some basic errors with short passes allowing Knebworth to continue to steal possession. Josh has had no time during the first 5 minutes to draw breath as he is challenged constantly. Harry, Max & Aiden all go in with some good challenges but Knebworth are reading the game well and anticipate their moves making it difficult for them to find any flow. Knebworth gain a couple of corners in quick succession again piling on the pressure at the back, Josh saves and passes out to the wing, but move again intercepted and Knebworth waste no time converting 0-3. Within seconds of the restart Knebworth tuck another away 0-4 but also Josh takes a knock to his arm, but bravely continues after a talk with the coach. finally half time whistle blows and some relief for the boys.
Coach Mike has a good talk to the boys and reminds them how they can play and what they need to do to ensure some damage limitation. Second half whistle blows and Knebworth in a repeat of the first half let of a quick shot on goal which finds its way in the back of the net 0-5. Eagles do start to think about their passes and Stuart, Aaron & Aiden start to stop the number of attacks and start passing down the wing. New boy 'Roberto' Carlos gets his first outing and does not waste time with some lightening moves down the wing and in on goal for a shot which is saved for a corner. Harry steps up to take but defended well by Knebworth. Eagles are now starting to play better and string some passes together but Knebworth continue to look dangerous and only the efforts of Josh ensure the number of goals does not increase with a number of fine saves.
Not before time final whistle blows, whilst it is a crushing defeat the second half saw the boys really start to think about their passes and Knebworth only managed 1 goal.
MATCH 2
Eagles start the game with some nicely worked passes but not long before familiar pattern of Knebworth on the attack. Josh saves for a corner kick which again produces another excellent save by Josh. Carlos goes in with a tackle to win the ball and pushes the ball up front to Alfie L who is quickly closed down by Knebworth. Alfie B gets in with lovely strong challenge which earns Eagles a thrown in. Josh tries to take the ball up the line to Carlos who has a shot on goal which is saved. Josh is working hard at the back trying to keep out Knebworth but they are strong and Josh in goal has to make save after save, all of which he is equal to. Dylan is pushing up front and Jamie works tirelessly to keep possession in the middle of the park and service Alfie L and Carlos. All action moves down the other end of the field as Knebworth move on the attack, late challenge in the box gives them a penalty. Josh stands tall and does enough to put off the striker as he shoots wide! Half time whistle 0-0
Same pace as first half though Eagles are getting in more passes and is a very entertaining game to watch. Carlos is showing some lovely form with some nice passing and skill to keep possession and work the ball up field, has a shot which is saved, unlucky! Jamie works a lovely pass to Josh who has a effort on goal. Jamie gets in a couple of crucial tackles to slow down the attacks by Knebworth, which forces an Eagles throw, Jamie takes, find Carlos who is off like a bolt of lightening down from the half way line and in on goal, takes a shot and scores 1-0 Eagles! Knebworth try to get back into the game but Josh and Dylan hold firm. Knebworth do manage to get some shots on goal but Josh is having an excellent game and is making save after save, one of the crowd remarks that 'He is on fire' and I agree. Final whistle blows and Eagles get a thoroughly deserved win 1-0.

17th February 2007 v STEVENAGE BORO
Match 1
Match starts brightly with some nice short passes between the boys, Boro begin to push forward but Stuart cuts in with a nice interception to stop their attack. This spurs on the Eagles to push forward and Harry takes a shot but manages to hit a Boro player not the goal! Eagles force a corner which is cleared. Boro begin another attack but Aiden gets a nice challenge in with a pass to Harry who passes to Max who is takes the ball forward and shoots, yes 0-1 to Eagles! This goal does not stop Boro continuing to break down the defence and they manage to get a number of shots on target which luckily the boys clear but pressure is starting to mount, half time whistle blows.
Boro continue to look for an equalizer and they manage to get the ball in front of goal, Aiden again gets in with a good block but Eagles are slow in clearing and Boro have a shot which Josh saves but is unlucky when it slips from his hands and trickles over the line 1-1. Eagles are not deterred by this and Aaron is pushing to get the ball up front, he manages to pass to Harry who takes the ball forward and decides to have a shot, it finds it way in the back of the net 1-2 Eagles. Boro turn up the pressure which Eagles match but none the less boys need to keep their concentration which produces an excellent well time tackle by Alfie B stops a certain run on goal, you can always rely on Alfie B to get those crucial tackles! All the boys are giving 100% to maintain their lead which they successfully manage as final whistle blows 1-2 to Eagles!
Match 2
Straight away Dylan wastes no time by moving in with some very good strong challenges and passing out to Jamie who has gained so much strength in centre of the park over the past 3-4 weeks. Jamie looks for Alfie L and works a lovely pass to him who pushes on goal but ball is taken off his foot as he attempts to shoot. Boro are proving a strong tam and lots of action up and down the pitch as both teams try to find a way forward to the vital first goal. Eagles look more like managing this and their passing is really improving. Ben is popping up again with some really good tackles and also pushing the ball forward to Alfie who has an attempt on goal saved. Again Jamie is running around looking for space and does a lovely pass up field which unfortunately comes to nothing as half time whistle blows 0-0
Boro have changed re-introduced some of their first team looking for the goal but Eagles are equal to the task and continue to block a number of challenges with Josh proving solid at the back and protecting his goalie. Ben picks up the ball in his own half and does a fantastic solo effort attempt on goal which he is unlucky not to get anything, but very entertaining to watch. Goalie Josh has little to do but still manages some good stops. A few Boro players seem to think they are bowling as they fall over like skittles at the merest of challenges but do not stop Eagles putting on a good all round team effort, whilst the whistle blows and game ends 0-0 team can be proud that they worked hard together.
As we have two teams now the Coach is looking to introduce Man of The Match for both games such is the competition each week for this award, so watch this space.

3rd February 2007 v ARLESEY TOWN YOUTH
Match 1
Firstly big thanks to Liz (Josh Goalies Mum) for securing the sponsorship for the Whites, the boys shirts and them looked lovely for their official photo!
Tactics today were to defend the goal rather than our usual attacking game. Arlesey were strong on the attack and put in a number of decent attempts on goal which Josh did well to keep out. Harry is trying to get the ball to Max but it is difficult for Max to push forward as Arlesey rush straight to him and with all the players so deep most chances don't get pass the halfway line. Stuart and Aiden are working really hard to push the ball up but Arlesey are quite physical and are not afraid to jump in for a challenge which they seem to win. As Max attempts to make a nice run on goal he is harshly penalised for a foul which from where I was standing and of course being unbiased was clearly not! A quick change with Stuart off and Josh G on. Alfie B gets a nice challenge in and does enough to thwart the shot on goal for a corner kick to Arlesey which Josh saves and so ends the first half 0-0.
Second half the Eagles are really playing well together to defend their goal and working hard to clear all attempts, they are always looking to push forward and this perseverance gives Eagles a throw which unfortunately does not come to anything. Again we have a number of attacks to save and Josh does a lovely save (his training is starting to pay dividends) just as another goal bound shot goes into our area Harry takes the ball off the players foot and clears. With so much pressure it was inevitable that one of their chances would work its way through and it did 1-0 to Arlesey. Even with this goal Eagles do not give up and Stuart works hard to clear his lines passing to Aaron who tries to push it down the line but cannot get through, Arlesey quick to nip in and shoot into top of goal 2-0. Must say some of the decisions going against Eagles are questionable but Eagles continue with their professional attitude and see out the game never having given up. Final score 2-0 and a really good team effort as all players worked extremely hard.
Match 2
Good start by Eagles in this match with Dylan getting in a couple of important challenges and stops, he also finds time for a nicely worked pass to Alfie L towards goal but cant capitalise. Ben is starting to show his defending qualities and not afraid to get stuck in with the challenges. Jamie is commanding the middle of the park and I have never seen him get so many tackles in and excellent passes to Alfie B as he attempts to get in on goal. Arlesey get a free kick as one of their players are injured and there he is the 'magic spray man' memories of him from our home game were in everyones mind! The free kick comes to nothing. Harry earns Eagles a free kick which he takes Alfie L tries again to get in goal but is unlucky as goalie saves. Half time whistle blows 0-0
Arlesey quick on the attack and Ben puts in two brilliant blocks to clear our lines, Arlesey shot on goal but are just wide. Ben takes ball out and does a nice turn and pass to Max who is quick up the line but is unlucky when ball runs out. Eagles starting to get more of the ball and in this game have some more shots on goal but lacking the final strength to put them away. Jamie continues as he did in the first half working his socks off to get the ball. Josh works hard to keep the ball out of our end and with a final push Dylan tries to get the ball up field but whistle blows, a well deserved and hard worked for draw 0-0
MAN OF THE MAN: BEN

20th January 2007 v Shefford Saints
Having never played the Saints before Eagles weren't too sure what to expect and what we got was a very lively start by them. They made some quick attempts on goal before Aaron got in a good pass to Max who shot on goal which was saved. Each time the Saints went on the attack Stuart was there defending working with Aiden to keep the strikers at bay. However a lapse in concentration let Saints in on goal and Eagles conceded a soft goal 1-0 to the Saints. It’s not long before Eagles are forcing the pace and win a deserved corner, Harry takes and Max picks it up but the goalie is in there to deny us an equalizer. Straight back up to defend Alfie B does a nice little trick to outsmart the Saints and clears the ball. Eagles are still playing too deep and not enough through balls are making there way up field for any real chances by the Eagles. With such deep defending and too many Eagles players all chasing the same ball Saints sneak in with another strike which Josh magnificently saves but is unlucky as the rebound is buried in the net, 2-0 to the Saints. Half time whistle blows!
What is noticeable in the second half is the somewhat unprofessional sportsmanship displayed by some of the Saints players, Max does well to ignore after repeated attempts to provoke him by the Saints defender. Game is much more even in the second half and Eagles produce some excellent passes by all the boys but cannot penetrate the final third of the pitch for that all important goal. Max produces a fine individual run that is saved. Aiden is tidying up at the back as Josh comes under some heavy pressure with Saints hitting the post and going wide on a couple of occasions. Must question some of the 'Ref' decisions in Saints favour as they win a free kick out of nothing but justice is done when it comes to nothing! Eagles have their last attempt on goal as the final whistle blows 2-0 to the Saints.
B TEAM
Introducing a new player to the team allows the other boys to have a well deserved breather. Making his first appearance is Ben who early on gets a nice shot on goal, hasn't taken him long to settle down. Aaron is popping up in front of goal and is rewarded when he does a lovely ball into the net, third week in a row that Aaron has scored becoming quite the predator 0-1 Eagles. Eagles are much more in control of this match and Dylan is holding firm in the middle of the pitch with Josh making some nice runs down the touch line passing to Alfie L who is unlucky in front of goal but getting more and more confident each week. Jamie is starting to make his presence known by putting in some challenges, then passes to Dylan who shoots wide. The persistence by the Eagles to challenge for everything earns them a corner which Alfie L takes to Dylan who shots over the bar. A very exciting end the first half 0-1.
Pace has not gone and Ben again straight in with a shot on goal, Saints starting to push back a bit now and Stuart quickly tidies up at the back as well as Josh making some fine saves, a quieter game for him but still very important stops. The passing is really starting to pay dividends with Ben, Alfie L and Josh G all getting some attempts on goal. Harry is trying to pass the ball forward and all the front boys are trying to push for the second, ball goes out of play. Eagles coach calls for a sub which is ignored by the ref, just as well as Harry takes the ball and shoots into the net 0-2, he was the player that was coming off!! As Eagles celebrate and relax a bit Saints push forward and a fine goal by none other than Harry’s ex classmate scores! Before we have time to regroup whistle blows and Eagles win 1-2.

SATURDAY 13TH JANUARY - V POTTON COLTS
POTTON COLTS A TEAM
Game started with Eagles on the defence but quickly the ball is being intercepted by Aaron with a nice ball to Harry who passes to Max who shoots and forces a save, however the ball is handled outside the area and Eagles get their first penalty. Harry steps up to take but sends it wide. Stuart and Aiden are holding firm on the back line as Colts get in a number of shots on goal which Josh is equal to. Alfie B takes the ball at the half way line and does an outstanding pass to Max who forces a corner. Harry takes the corner which is not cleared properly but giving Harry another shot which just hits the post. Colts are quick to respond and charging straight for goal but Josh is straight of his line for another fine save. Colts now start putting some pressure on the Eagles area but nice drag back by Stuart keeps the ball firmly in Eagles possession and half time whistle blows 0-0.
Eagles were straight off the line with Aaron forcing a throw which Colts don't clear and concede a corner. Harry floats in a nice ball to Aaron who for the second week running is in the box and tucks one away 1-0! Colts start to wake up and for the next five minutes we see a lot of end to end action with strong challenges by Aiden and Stuart, though Colts sneak pass all the Eagles lads and get a lucky equalizer 1-1. Eagles aren't finished and keep pushing for the winner with Max having some fine shots saved by the Colts keeper. Colts throw everything behind the ball and Eagles just can't break down their defence for the second goal to seal victory, final whistle blows 1-1.
POTTON COLTS B TEAM
Starting to see more of Alfie L, Dylan & Sam in the second games. Alfie B starts with a nice pass to Dylan who forces the Colts to clear their lines early on. Colts are commanding the space and put Josh under pressure with a series of shots which he does brilliantly to save. He does a nice throw to Aiden who is looking for someone up front but no one there to take advantage. Alfie L though is finding some space and has a couple of half chances on goal which he takes, unlucky not to capitalise. Alfie B does his usual weekly take on as many players as he can, I counted three! Max comes on and is unlucky when one of his shots is intercepted on route to goal. Sam is working hard and creates a good shot which is saved. Eagles are certainly attacking the goal but missing the final piece to convert as Max shots wide from a free kick. Half time 0-0
Coach rearranges the positions which seem to help as Colts can't break down the defence. Max down the other end is working well with Dylan and Sam but good defending by both teams is making the first goal elusive. Stuart tries a ball down the line and again unlucky not to have his name on the score sheet. Colts keeper rushes a clearance which Alfie L intercepts with some quick thinking but the keeper recovers in time to save. Eagles get a corner in dying minutes which Harry takes but is cleared by the Colts as final whistle blows 0-0.
Good show by all the boys
MAN OF THE MATCH: JOSH (GOALIE AND WELL DESERVED)

SATURDAY 6TH JANUARY V Biggleswade United
Match 1
Well I suppose we have done well not having had to stand in the pouring rain during a match, but boy did we pay on Saturday when the heavens opened!
Despite the weather all the boys were ready for action! Josh had to pull off a save in the first minutes of the game as Biggleswade started to apply pressure in our own half. Harry put in a couple of decent challenges near goal but Eagles couldn't control the final push on goal. Harry, Max & Aaron displayed some well thought passes and were unlucky not to score. Stuart as ever was defending his line and put in some excellent through balls to Max who shot wide and had one saved by the Biggleswade goalie. Aiden came in with a strong challenge and passed to Harry who tried to convert but couldn't. Eagles really started to attack the Biggleswade goals but think too many chocolates over Christmas meant we weren't quite as sharp up front as we have been.
Biggleswade finally started to intercept our passes and started to challenge for goal, though Josh who had very little to do so far saves the first shot but Biggleswade are quick on the rebound and tuck away the opening goal 0-1. Aaron is quick to get stuck in and is unlucky in front of goal, the same is said of Harry. The rain is making the field really slippy and whilst the boys can keep their feet the same can't be said of the ref who nearly falls (no names mentioned Aaron’s dad!). Half time whistle blows 0-1
Second half starts same as first with equal amount of opportunities at both ends. Eagles work the ball down the line and Aiden passes to Harry who shoots but is saved, when will we break their defence. Eagles have a throw on that is taken by Harry to Max who shoots and scores, yes 1-1! From this point Eagles look more likely to score and Josh does a lovely kick from his goal mouth straight to Max who has a certain goal blocked by Biggleswade defence at the final hurdle. Alife B and Josh G put in some quality tackles and as ever never afraid to closely man mark, this helped the team take some shots on goal and Eagles are unlucky when Harry hits the post. Biggleswade manage to escape as the final whistle blows 1-1
Match 2
The mud bath that is the pitch has to sustain another match and what an entertaining match it was. Straight away Biggleswade grab a soft goal and once Eagles they are in a match they start to settle and play. Harry hits the side netting which starts a spur by the Eagles. Jamie is really working hard in his position and intercepts a Biggleswade pass, Alife L then passed to Harry who doesn't waste anytime in converting 1-1! Biggleswade are quick of the whistle and Josh now has to start working hard in goal to keep the very good number 7 Biggleswade player out. Stuart is playing brilliantly and running the ball from his own end right at the goal and is unlucky not to get a goal. Half time 1-1
Aaron and Dylan are working well together and passes the ball up the field, however Biggleswade intercept and with a lovely chip score 1-2 and not one minute later as Eagles are trying to re-organise get in a third 1-3. Eagles don't lose their hands and start to reform at the back with Harry covering in defence. Jamie does a good pass to Josh G who passes to Aaron who shoots and we all watch as his first goal sails into the net! 2-3. With only a few minutes remaining the boys tried their hardest to equalize (what they deserve) but the ref blows before we can gain that elusive goal. Game ends 2-3
Excellent work boys in terrible conditions.

16th December 2006 v ROYSTON
LGCE Whites V ROYSTON A 1-2
Eagles were lucky again with the weather and although freezing we are grateful it wasn’t raining though there is a big dirty puddle that all the boys are looking at thinking, will I be first in it!! Despite the cold Aiden is straight in with a challenge as Royston are quick of the pace and show early flashes of skill. This is proven when they score in the first minute before the Eagles have even had a chance to wake up! 0-1. Stuart quickly reforms at the back and passes to Aaron who with tight man marking forces an Eagles throw in, Max shoots on goal but is wide. However, from this Royston take it straight down the line and are unlucky not to score. I think it is evident we have a match on our hands now.
The boys start to pass together and Alfie B as ever is in with a strong challenge on his man which stems the attack from Royston, for now. Royston are still pushing for their second goal and exploit Eagles down the line on a couple of occasions but Josh is still keeping them out. Eagles are unlucky when Harry has a shot on goal which is cleared by the Royston defence. Stuart manages a good couple of interceptions which undoubtedly keep Royston at bay as the first half comes to end.
Eagles hardly have time to catch their breath when Royston are straight back on the attack and Josh makes two crucial saves in quick succession. Eagles start to finally settle down and pass the ball around but cannot make the final push on goal. As soon as we have an attempt on goal Royston reform and push for their second, which comes shortly into the second half, 0-2. Undeterred Eagles make a quick reply with a nice worked goal which Max scores, yes! 1-2. Eagles start to ramp up the pressure and Royston are forced to concede a corner which Harry steps up to take and hits the cross bar! Still the equalizer is being chased and all the boys are giving 100% effort to get it, but even though we have a late throw in we can't find the second goal and game ends 1-2.
LGCE Whites V ROYSTON B 0-3
Second game sees our regulars Alfie L and Jamie on and this game starts exactly as the first, fast and furious! Jamie stands firm and puts in a good block and a nice pass to Max who shoots and forces a corner, this is cleared by Royston. Jamie is in the middle of the pitch and persistently getting a foot in to stop the Royston attacks. Aaron intercepts a pass and with quick thinking passed to Max who runs the half the length of the pitch and is unlucky not to get something for it. Alfie L is holding the back and starting to grow in confidence with some key challenges. After a messy goal mouth scramble Royston get a lucky goal, 0-1. Harry and Max are working well together with some well placed passes by Harry to Max and only the skill of the Royston goalie denies the Eagles. Royston aren't finished though and Josh comes up with some fine saves in the dying minutes of the first half.
Second half and Alfie L is in there with a good pass to Max and Eagles are keen to get the equalizer but Royston with 7 fresh pairs of legs have the edge and continue to outpace the Eagles and are quicker to the challenges. Stuart however is really defending well and puts in some key tackles and manages to take the ball down forcing Royston to back peddle slightly. He places a good pass to Max who unfortunately does not have any support and is quickly out numbered by Royston. Stuart again passes down the line to Alife B who is the first player in the puddle (sorry mum but think that kit will take a couple of washes) but still manages the tackle and thwarts their attempt on goal. Despite some good play Royston are fresher and get their second, 0-2. The final minutes are spent between both goals with Eagles unlucky with a corner but Royston on the counter attack and a well worked piece of football grab their third, 0-3. Whistle finally blows and a tired Eagles team head for the dressing room.
Enjoy the break boys and looking forward to 2007

The memories of our last meeting with St Neots were still in everyone's mind, but after the recent good run Eagles were not daunted.
St Neots were straight away on the attack and Eagles conceded a corner within the first few seconds of the match, St Neots took the corner but Josh dived in to claim the ball. Eagles were finding it difficult to keep the ball out of their own goal mouth and St Neots were unlucky not to score when they shot just wide. Eagles needed to settle down and fast, as if on queue Alfie B passed to Harry, who shot to Max who forced the first Eagles corner which Harry took and St Neots cleared. Then it was straight down the pitch as St Neots broke fast but who was there again to thwart their efforts, yes Josh with another fine save. St Neots were putting the Eagles under a lot of pressure and in some cases showing some strong challenges but Eagles withstood it all and this paid off with another corner. Harry stepped up to take and whipped in a good cross which the St Neots defence couldn't keep out, Harry scored! 1-0 Eagles.
Stuart was holding back the St Neots strikers with some excellent tackles and clearances helped by Aiden, however St Neots kept pressing for the equalizer and all I can say is that 'Braveheart' Josh just kept on keeping them out with save after save which had the spectators shouting his name. Eagles continued to match St Neots for pace and passing and the game was flowing end to end making it very good viewing. Eagles had a throw on but lost possession and St Neots were unlucky not to capitalise on their error as the ball went across the face of goal. St Neots managed one final attack of the half but again Josh was there in command of his goal mouth. Half time 1-0
If you thought the second half was going to be any different you are wrong, it started as fast as the first with St Neots determined to equalize whatever! St Neots strong challenges earnt Eagles a free kick which was cleared by a header of the St Neots defence. St Neots identical to the first half brought the ball down the line and shot which again was saved by Josh for a corner. Eagles defended well but St Neots forced a throw in, the goal mouth was crowded with St Neots players hungry for a goal, but not with Josh waiting for them with yet another unbelievable save, whatever he had for breakfast it was working. The attacks on the Eagles goal was coming in waves now with Aaron, Aiden, Alfie and Stuart all defending and tackling brilliantly and Eagles matching everything St Neots could throw at us. Alfie continued as last week with tight man on man marking. However, no matter how well we matched them just sheer constant pressure resulted in the St Neots equalizer, 1-1. The final three minutes were thrilling and end to end with Max unlucky not to score after bringing the ball down from the half way line and just shooting wide. Harry had a chance which was saved and with that the final whistle blew. It has to be said that without Josh and his absolutely brilliant performance the score line would have been a lot different and Eagles got a thoroughly deserved draw. Final Score 1-1
GAME 2
LGCE U7’s Whites V St. Neots B
As last week the additional game gave the coach as chance to put on some of the newer members of the team. Dillon was straight in there with a strong defensive tackle in front of the Eagles goal and Josh yet again out to claim the ball. Eagles were the more dominant and Max who had ran the length of the pitch had a shot on goal which whistled just by the goal post. St Neots matched this effort straight away with a lovely save from Josh. Jamie was working the middle of the park and kept St Neots at bay with some good challenges, you can see him getting stronger with each match. Josh was defending well and not afraid to get in with some good tackles. With Harry, Max and Alfie L up front working well together it was only a matter of time with all the pressure they put on the St Neots goal before they got a goal, which they did after some good work between Harry and Max, Max drilled one home 1-0.
St Neots responded by blasting up the field and launching attack after attack on the Eagles goal but yes you've guessed it Josh matched them with more brilliant saves.

St Neots responded by blasting up the field and launching attack after attack on the Eagles goal but yes you've guessed it Josh matched them with more brilliant saves However, such was their determination they managed to equalize 1-1. Aaron was in the thick of it with some really good interceptions with Josh supporting him. What is now becoming known as the 'Max Move' straight down the line, past a couple of defenders and a shot on goal, unlucky not to score. Stuart also tried this move and took the ball from defense down the field and was like Max was just thwarted by the St Neots keeper. Aideen was really solid at the back and kept a number of attacks from becoming chances by St Neots by getting a foot in at the crucial time. With the Eagles still pushing for the winner, Jamie takes on three players passing to Alfie L who had a shot on goal. Alfie B and Aideen both continued to keep the pressure on by clearing their lines but St Neots still looking to score and Eagles were lucky that they shot just wide of the goal. First defensive error forces a corner which St Neots take, Josh pushes the ball out but a St Neots player is waiting to pounce and tucks one away, 1-2. Eagles battle hard until the final whistle but just couldn't get the equalizer. Another thrilling match showing how far the Eagles have come in the last 4-6 weeks!
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES FROM ALL THE BOYS
Man of the Match: Dillon
2nd December 2006 - Stotfold Juniors V LGCE WHITES 7’s (AWAY)
Match 1 - Stotfold Juniors A v LGCE Whites
After last weeks win the boys were full of confidence and started the match where they left off. The pace was quick and as an impartial spectator evenly matched. Stuart dominated early on protecting his area and showed some solid defending but also making some runs in midfield. The boys settled down and started to pass the ball around the field as practised in training. Alfie challenged for every ball and was not intimidated by the boy he was marking even though he was twice his size! The man marking forced Stotfold to make some rushed passes giving the Eagles a thrown in which produced a shot on goal but was cleared. However the pressure was starting to mount and Harry shot a powerful strike outside the box which the keeper couldn't keep out, 1-0 Eagles.
Eagles soon took complete control of the match and dominated, Aaron also looked to clear each ball even if it was into the face of a Stotfold Junior! Max and Harry continued to attack the Stotfold goal and worked well together, this team play produced another shot by Harry which was converted 2-0. There were plenty of crunching tackles from both teams and one from the Eagles which the ref gave as a free kick to Stotfold which fortunately came to nothing, lets just say Aiden's new nickname is 'Chopper'. Eagles made some fine passes down the line using as much space as possible, this paid dividends and Max wasted no time in drilling home the third goal of the half 3-0. Where was Josh I hear you ask during this half, well to be honest such was the lack of action in his goal he had the chance to admire the scenery, Half time!
Whatever the Stotfold Manager said to his team at half time worked because they came out of the blocks with grit and determination. Early on you could see the pressure now on the Eagles goal mouth. It could be said a little bit of complacency crept in by the Eagles from the first half and they had to work hard to stem the flow of attacks now being taken by Stotfold. They managed to put some nice passes together and it was not long until their hard work paid off and they clawed a goal back 3-1! The next five minutes continued with several attacks on the Eagles goal and produced another well worked goal 3-2.
At this point the Eagles woke up and started to defend well with everyone throwing themselves at every ball to ensure the lead was maintained. Eagles also managed to get some attacks on the Stotfold goal and Aaron and Max were unlucky not to convert. The final whistle couldn't come quick enough and Eagles managed to hold on to their lead, game ended 3-2 to Eagles.
TEAM: Josh M, Stuart, Aaron, Aideen, Alfie L, Max (1), Harry (2), Alfie B, Jamie, Josh G, Sam, Dillon,
Match 2 - Stotfold Juniors B v LGCE Whites
This match gave the coach the opportunity to try out some of the boys who don't usually play on a Saturday and what a revelation. Although some of the regulars were also in the team including Alfie who captained this match, the newcomers certainly made their mark. Alfie led by example pushing forward and putting in some good challenges. Dillon showed his strength and was not afraid to tackle, he also made some good attempts on goal one which led to the Stotfold goalie having to take an early bath due to injury from the shot, Dillon was unlucky not to score. We also had another Josh on the field who showed some real flair in the middle of the park, all that training was paying off. Alfie was unlucky not to score just before half time whistle blew.
Second half continued at a fairly quick pace and for the third week running, hope this is not becoming a regular occurrence an Eagles player took a ball in the face, Sam bravely soldiered on and once he had a bit of magic spray (otherwise known as water) he continued to play. Jamie was battling hard at the halfway line and managed to string some lovely passes together to keep the strikers supplied, Eagles were unlucky not to score and Dillon, Josh and Sam each had some near misses. Josh saved a fine effort from a Stotfold player who ran the length of the pitch and showed some real flair.
Whilst we were unlucky not to capitlise on all the hard work the obvious talent of all of the White players was clear to see and I for one am looking forward to seeing all the players in the future. COME ON BOYS!

25th November 2006 - V Stevenage Boro Blues/Tigers: 3-0
Match started off brightly and on an even pace with some good play by both sides. Boro started to string some good passes together and put the Eagles goal under some pressure. Eagles did not lose their concentration and managed to clear their lines with some solid defending by Stuart and Aiden. A throw in by Boro produced a fine strike which was matched by Josh with a fantastic save. From this point Eagles seem to gain confidence with each pass, and they actually remembered what the coach has been telling them, finding space to pass to each other.
Boro goalie forgot where his box ended and handled outside the area to give Eagles a free kick which was taken by Harry and cleared off the line, only into the path of Max who did not waste any time in converting for Eagles first goal.
What ever Boro threw at us was matched by the strength and determination of the team and both Alfie's put in their fair share of tackles ensuring the first half ended at 1-0.
Second half continued with Eagles in command, Aaron was ensuring that nothing got past him and putting in some excellent passes to service Max, however one of these passes did manage to find its way into Jamie’s face who bravely ignored all the concerns from the mums on the touchline and carried on playing! Aaron found space and managed to find Max who with some excellent movement buried his second goal of the match 2-0 Eagles.
Eagles were in overdrive and forcing Boro to make a number of errors. Stuart dribbled the ball from his own area into the last third of the pitch and forced a corner which was taken by Harry and cleared of the line.
Not content with a 2-0 lead Eagles continued to push and were rewarded with a fine individual effort by Max taking his tally to 3 (hatrick), still the team pushed on and it was only the final whistle that prevented even more goals! A terrific come back from last weeks defeat and an exciting game to watch, WELL DONE BOYS!!

18th November 2006 LGCE Whites V Bassingbourne Youth FC
Match 1
Despite the cold start, the game started brightly, with Bassingbourne slightly taking the advantage. However, Eagles started to calm down and managed to secure a corner which forced a good save by Bassingbourne’s goalie. Due to a lack of concentration from the Eagles, Bassingbourne scored. From this point onwards Bassingbourne took control and Eagles conceded a second goal before half-time. It is worth mentioning, that Aidan showed true bravery by throwing himself in front of a cross into the box and took a painful blow to his face, from the match ball!
After a good team talk by the Coach, Eagles came out ready for action. They worked some good crosses and passes with Harry unlucky not to score through a free kick. A good throw on gave Max the opportunity in front of goal, which he took and brought Eagles back into the game. Although Eagles applied constant pressure in front of goal, they could not convert their chances and the game ended 2-1.
Match 2
Although with some aching bodies and cold legs, Eagles came out eager to win. A few players’ positions were changed, to try and see if this could improve our game. Eagles immediately started to apply pressure and had two attempts on goal within the first few minutes. Eagles kept pushing up and we saw some fine individual efforts kept out by the talented goalie of Bassingbourne.
It is fair to say that Josh could have had a nap, as there was no action down his end of the pitch. This game was only one half and despite a goal mouth frenzy in the final moments, Eagles could not capitalise and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
WELL DONE BOYS!
Man of the Match - Aiden
