LETCHWORTH G.C EAGLES BLUES 2 v BALDOCK CRUSADERS 2
Team: Adam, Oscar, Gus, Oliver, Luke, Paddy, Alfie
This week the captains armband was handed to Gus after his impressive training session on Thursday night. This weeks local derby fixture against Baldock was going to prove a bigger test than the week before. With local pride to play for it was anyone’s guess who would pick up the 3 points.
With both sides ready for kick off the referee blew his whistle. And it was Baldock who came out the blocks first to create some good early chances on the Blues goal, with Adam making two or three great saves to stop them from taking the early lead.
The Blues responded with some great play and passing moves down the flanks with Like & Paddy combining well to open up space in the middle of the pitch, for Kain to burst onto the ball and make a darting run into the box only for the Baldock keeper to make the save. With the game very even the two teams went into half time sharing the scoreline at 0-0.
With the halftime team talk taken care of, the Blues returned to the pitch with Alfie on for Oliver. It was the Blues who kicked off, and right from the whistle they putpressure on the Baldock goal. Taking something from the game last week they started to defend higher up the pitch with Gus now pushing forward well into the Baldock half and making sure the ball didn’t go passed him. The Blues were able to mount a flurry of shooting opportunities buke again Kain, Luke & Paddy all had great shots saved by the Baldock keeper.
Then it was Baldock who hit on the counter attack, working the ball well up the pitch it was up to ever reliable Oscar at the back to cut out the attack with the ball going out for a corner. Adam saved well and passed the ball out wide to Lukeon the right wing who ran the ball down the line and made a well timed pass to Paddy who was flying down the middle, he dribbled the ball around two Baldock players and struck a strong shot into the bottom left corner of the goal 1-0 !!!!!!!
Baldock restarted the game and were hungry for the equalizer, the Blues were now defending hard to keep them out of their penalty area but all their hard work was undone as Baldock scored two goals in quick succession to take the lead, the score now 2-1 to Baldock.
Luke was replaced by Oliver in the right wing position and the Eagles were now looking for their second goal to level the match, with only a few minutes remaining the Blues pushed everyone forward with Kain picking up the ball in midfield and running diagonally across the front of the Baldock penalty area trying to look for a way in but Baldock just kept closing the door shut.
Kain still on the ball took two Baldock defenders to fell him which in turn created space for Oliver to run into and Kain managed to pass the ball to him from his position on the floor and Oliver hit it low and hard into the bottom left corner of the goall 2-2!!!
There was just enough time to restart the game before the referee blew his whistle for full time.
WELL DONE BLUES ANOTHER GREAT SHOW OF FOOTBALL SKILLS AND TEAM PLAY!!
Thanks to the referee Alfie’s granddad and well done to the boys for playing their way back into the game to grab the draw.
Letchworth G.C Eagles U7 Blues 9 V Buntingford Cougars U7 Whites 0
Team: Adam, Gus, Oliver, Kain, Oscar, Luke, Alfie, Paddy.
After a good half term break, it was back to Thursday night training. It was Kain who was handed the captains armband for the match on Saturday.
This week’s fixture saw Pixmore being visited by a Buntingford side that the Eagles had not meet in the league yet. The blues looked fresh from their weeks rest and with the return of Oscar from his mid winter Egyptian training camp, the managers looked confident. Captain Kain took to centre to flick the coin, but it was Buntingford who would start the game.
Buntingford kicked off and right from the whistle the blues were hungry for the ball with Oscar playing in midfield it wasn’t long before he had forced Buntingford to give up the ball, and with a wide pass out to the right wing to Luke the blues were on the attack. Luke now more happy to run with the ball at his feet skipped around the Buntingford defence and crossed the ball across the face of the goal, Buntingford managed to scramble the ball away but only as far as Kain who was hovering on the left flank. He quickly made the choice to run at goal and when he was eight yards out he took his shot low and hard into the bottom left corner of the goal.1-0. This was to be a goal feast by the blues!!!!
Paddy who was now on for Alfie up front, was soon in the thick of the action picking the ball up in the centre of midfield. He made his run towards goal and with the rest of the blues behind he had no option but to go it alone. He rounded two Buntingford defenders and slipped the ball into the back of the net past the outstretched keeper,
2-0 !!!!.
Buntingford restarted the game and managed to pass there way upto the blues box, but there attack was quickly halted by an onform Oliver who dispossessed the Buntingford attacker and coolly passed the ball out wide to Kain who was now hunting for more goals. With the rest of the blues midfield now waiting in the box for the cross Kain had the taste for goals and was quick to dribble his way to the six yard box and pass the ball into the back of the Buntingford net. 3-0!!!.
The game restarted with Buntingford who just could not hold onto the ball with the blues defending high up the pitch to pin back Buntingford. And the blues hard work paid off with another quick goal by captain Kain. 4-0!!!!.
After a well-deserved rest at half time the blues started to play the best football so far this season. With the managers halftime shuffle Oliver was reunited with his defensive partner Oscar and Gus moved up into midfield .With Oliver and Oscar now defending well past the halfway line this gave the blues a good solid platform to launch there attacks from and it wasn’t long before Paddy had add two more goals for his hatrick to make the score 6-0!!!!.
With the blues confidence sky high it was Oscar who got his name on the score sheet next, when the blues pushed forward again it was Oscar who had made a forward run with the safe knowledge that Oliver was at the back to stop any attempted counter attacks by Buntingford. The ball was half cleared by Buntingford only for the ball to land at Oscars feet who then riffled a shot back at goal,7-0!!!!.
It was the blues next goal that is up for the goal of the season award, with Oliver now wanting to get in on the action he was going more and more forward at every blues attack leaving Luke (the bullet) Burgess covering on the halfway line only for Buntingford to clear the ball straight to his feet, Luke looked up saw the keeper off his goal line and from near non halfway managed to curl the ball into the back of the net 8-0!!! Our very own Frank Lampard.
It was Gus who was rewarded for his hard work in midfield with great goal, taking his shot from outside the Buntingford box, Gus sent a thunderbolt passed the Buntingford keeper to make the final score 9-0!
WELL DONE BLUES A DESERVING RESULT!!
This week we would like to thank Alfie's granddad for refereeing the match, plus Luke’s mum Julie for being this week’s kit lady.
LETCHWORTH G C EAGLES BLUES 0 V WELWYN G C 3
Team: Daniel (goalkeeper), Adam (defender), Oliver (in the hole), Luke (left midfield), Kain (centre midfield), Paddy Captain (right midfield), Gus (centre forward), Oscar/Alfie (subs).
This week saw Paddy collecting the captain’s armband from Gary, for all his hard work at midweek training. Well done Paddy!
Saturday saw the return of a Welwyn side that had visited the home ground only two weeks before, result being a goal apiece.
So the boys were in high spirits looking for the win that they deserved after showing some fantastic football the Saturday before. With a very youthful looking referee ready to show the rest of the dads how it is done, the Blues were set for kick off.
With Welwyn winning the flick of the coin it was them who took the centre. They started brightly moving the ball down the pitch towards the Blues box only for the ball to be cut out by some good strong tackling by Oliver, Luke and Adam. All three had come back to help out with the defence. Daniel making his first start in goal this week made some huge clearances up field for the awaiting frontline of Gus and Paddy to run onto. Gus playing for the first time up front made some good runs with the ball and when Welwyn did manage to get the ball it was some trademark challenge by Gus that kept it deep in the Welwyn half.
After the first 10 minutes it was time for the manager (Gary) to use his first set of substitutions taking Adam and Captain Paddy off and replacing them with Alfie. He took up his position on the right of midfield and Oscar went to his rightful home in defence.
The ball had now been kept in the Blues half for the last few minutes which resulted in a Welwyn shot, just fizzing wide of the post. Daniel took a quick goal kick but it was the Welwyn players that reacted first getting to the ball and taking a shot before Daniel could retreat back to his goal, this resulting the score 1-0 to Welwyn. The Blues managed to keep the score to 1-0 until halftime. At half time Daniel was subbed for Adam in goal.
The Blues looked fired up after Gary’s half time talk and were keen to grab the equaliser. Kain made some great darting runs down the flank and through the middle with Gus and Luke waiting for the opportunity to cross into the box only for it to be kicked out by a Welwyn defender for a corner. This resulted in a corner kick was quickly gobbled up by the Welwyn goalkeeper and kicked up field. With the Blues defence now on the back foot against three Welwyn players it was soon 2-0 to Welwyn.
With only 5 minutes left on the clock Gary brought Daniel back on to replace Gus up front, but it was to no avail Welwyn scored another late goal and the match finished with Welwyn winning 3-0.
Better luck to the Blues for next week’s fixture against Shefford Saints. Many thanks again to the referee (sorry I didn’t get your name).
WELL DONE BOYS AND BETTER LUCK ON SATURDAY!!!!
Game six of the season saw us entertain Welwyn Youth.
13 Oct 2007
With Derren away on International duty it was Gary who led the boys out onto the pitch with his secret black book tucked tightly under his arm.
The Reds started with today’s captain Ben P in goal, Jamie playing last man, Max in the hole, Daniel, Zak & Ben W lined up in midfield with James playing the lone striker. On the subs bench today was Theo & Archie.
Gus’ dad Shaun took control of the game today, with his cool & calm decisions the boys knew it was going to be a good, flowing game.
WGC started stronger out of the blocks, using the advantage of the slope to put us under early pressure.
As ever our concrete defenders Jamie & Mighty Max stood tall at the back, and dealt with any danger. Ben W & Daniel were working hard down the flanks, and Zak was putting in some great tackles in the centre of the park.
James showed great pace and awareness when he was sent clear for our 1st attack of the game, but his fierce shot was dealt with by the flexible WGC keeper. WGC kept applying more pressure, but it was great to see that not only can we play some nice passing football but we can dig in when we have to and defend as a solid unit. Jamie may be one of our smallest player but he plays like a giant.
As Shaun blew for half time Gary camped the boys down in the centre of the pitch for their team talk and a well deserved break.
We started the second half lively when Max’s fine chip found Ben W, who smashed a fantastic volley inches over the bar. So powerful was Bens shot that it nested nicely in the tall tress behind the WGC goal!!
We had now found our shape and the chances started to come. A great solo effort by Zak saw us take a deserved lead, as he twisted & turned past WGC defenders then placed the ball in the net from close range! 1-0.
A game of ping pong then developed between our boys & the WGC woodwork, Zak’s shot hit the post, Archie responded with a shot against the crossbar, Ben W’s fine effort hit the post, Max then unleashed the final shot just wide!
But WGC fought back & tested our defence & Ben P on several occasions.
James was now playing last man and showed great strength and composure.
Theo, who showed us he can play comfortably on either wing, saw a long range effort steer wide of the goal. Daniel our midfield engine, was pushed upfront and kept the WGC defence busy and forcing many corners.
10 mins into the second half our reward came.
The Reds were awarded a free kick, just outside the WGC box. Zak placed the ball, his eyes focused on the goal, then in true Beckham style blasted into the roof of the net! Zak’s goal celebration was one that even Lua Lua would have been proud of!!
But our opponents were not to surrender easily.
From the restart they stretched our tired legs and earned themselves a well deserved goal.
2-1 was the final score in a great game of end to end football.
Well done boys!!
(Unbeaten in six league games – only another 44 to beat Arsenals record!!)
Many thanks to Shaun for refereeing our game today, another great display in the middle.
LGC EAGLES REDS 2 STEVENAGE BORO 2
Saturday 6th October 2007
Team -
Ben P, Jamie, Daniel, Max, Ben W, Theo, James, Zak, Archie,
You could feel the tension from the team talk prior to the match, as Dez & Gary briefed our troops on what we knew would be one of our toughest tests so far this season.
The last time these two teams met only penalties could decide.
A large crowd filled one side of the long sloping pitch.
The Reds lined up with Safe hands Ben P in goal, Jamie last man, James playing in the hole, Theo, Daniel & Ben W in midfield and Archie upfront. Max & Zak started on the bench.
Match day referee Luke’s dad Ade blew into his whistle, the match started with
both teams showing great levels of skill and commitment. A sweeping move involving Jamie, James and Ben W dissected the Boro defense , but the ball faded away from the goal at the last moment.
From then on we were pinned deep into our own half as Boro threw everything at us.
Jamie and James worked hard together at the back , with Ben P being called into action several times.
Our midfield trio of Theo, Daniel & Ben W matched the equally gifted Boro midfield.
Our best chance came from a huge Ben P drop kick, it bounced over the Boro defence onto Archie, who cannoned his shot over the crossbar.
Boros pressure finally paid off with a well worked goal, and not long after a close range effort made it 2 – 0.
Zak and Max were called into action as Daniel and James took a well deserved rest.
An inspired half time team talk from Dez & Gary prompted a great response from the Reds,
in the 2nd half.
Theo, as dangerous as ever, whipped in some early crosses with both Ben W and Max creating good chances.
Ben W tried his luck from 20 yards but his shot fizzed just wide.
We now had found our confidence.
The reds finally pulled a goal back when Jamie won possession, passed to Zak who released Archie in space , the keeper couldn’t hold onto the ball, Archie pounced to roll the ball into the empty net!!
Pressing for an equalizer, we now enjoyed strong spells of possession as James curled a shot agonisingly wide after making good room for himself.
Daniel, now playing in the hole, pushed on forcing many corners.
It was from a set piece that we finally got our reward for our efforts.
Zak’s powerful corner flicked off a Boro defender's leg for a Letchworth equaliser!!
In the dying minutes a sporadic Boro attack,
broke clear of our defence , but Ben P was at full stretch to tip the shot past the post.
A great game of football played at a very high standard.
Well done boys!!!
Special thanks to todays referee Luke’s dad Ade for doing a great job.
Letchworth Eagles Blues U7 1 V Stevenage Boro Lightning U7 3
The Team – Adam (goalkeeper) Oscar (defence) Oliver - Captain (in the hole) Luke (centre midfield) Paddy (right midfield) Daniel (left midfield) Gus (centre forward) and Kain (sub).
The Thursday night training session was a lot more quiet than usual with all the boys minds on getting hold of the captains armband. At the end of the session it was Oliver who collected the captain’s armband from Gary, well done!
Saturday morning, Oliver lead the Blues out looking ready for action knowing this was going to be a tough game against a well-organised Stevenage side. But they all lined up in their positions with the guest referee this week being John (Archie’s dad) poised to blow the whistle. Thanks John for your help!!
Both teams started the game well with Boro playing down the sloping pitch, which gave them the advantage. So it was up to Oscar and Oliver at the back to make some strong tackles to stop Boro from taking an early lead, which both handled their positions superbly.
With Luke and Paddy making good forward runs from midfield and Oliver passing the ball out of defence it wasn’t long before the Blues were on the attack. Gus playing the lone striker role was all over the Boro defence and managed to get some good strong shots on goal but the Boro goalkeeper must have had his porridge for breakfast before pulling off some good saves to deny the Blues the lead.
A long kick down field to the Blues box was almost too much for our boys to deal with but with Oscar at the back to clean up it was quickly out for a Boro corner. The Blues defended it well and it went out for a goal kick. Adam passed the ball out of his box only for a quick thinking Boro player to nick the ball and score 1-0 to Stevenage.
After the first 10 minutes, the Blues managers made their first substitution bringing on Kian for Oliver. For the 5 minuets before half time Kain started running well with the ball, going passed two or three Boro players at a time. But it was good strong defending from Boro players to keep the ball out there net for the equaliser.
After a good team talk from the Blues managers they lined up for the second half with heads up looking for the next goal. Now with the advantage of playing down the sloping pitch the Blues were running well with the ball. Adam had been moved up front and Daniel had taken his place in goal. Paddy and Kian both worked the ball out wide looking to make the cross into the box. There waiting was Luke and Adam, determined to get that chance to have a shot at Boro’s goal, but the crosses were cut out by some good Boro defending resulting in some good chances from the corner kicks.
After the first 5 minutes of the second half there was another substitution with Oliver coming back on and taking up a centre forwards position with Adam going off.
With Boro hunting their second goal, they started to push up field. Making a good diagonal run with the ball into the Blues box, one of the Boro players was tackled and the referee judge it to be a foul, resulting in a penalty to Stevenage 2-0.
With now only 7 minutes left on the referee’s watch it was vital Letchworth scored the next goal and they did. With a great pass out wide from Luke to Kain who dribbled the ball down to the right hand side of the Stevenage box and unleashed a cross / shot across the penalty area, which beat the Boro keeper but rebounded of the far post and out to Oliver who was waiting to slot the ball nicely into the Boro goal 2-1.
There was just enough time left for Boro to hit back on the break and they scored another goal. Seconds later the referee blew his whistle for full time, the final score being 3-1 to Stevenage Boro.
On behalf of all the parents, I (Ollie dad) would like to say well done to all the boys for the fantastic game of football. With you improving each week and playing some great football as a team, hopefully we can get the right result that you all deserve next time
WELL DONE!!!!!
LGC EAGLES (BLUES) 1 v WELWYN GARDEN CITY 1
SATURDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2007
BLUE TEAM:
Ben, Gus, Oliver, Paddy, Kain, Daniel B, Oscar, Luke (Captain), Alfie
After last week’s defeat, the boys were eager to start the game with the Blues usual fighting spirit that is always there whatever happens.
With a good Thursday night training session, Gary handed the captain’s armband to a well-deserved Luke, for this weekend’s match. Our referee was James dad, who deserves a mention, thank you from the Blues!
With the starting seven including Ben as our stand in goalkeeper this week, was Oscar as last man in defence, Daniel playing in the hole, Luke centre midfield, Paddy on left midfield with Kain on right midfield and Gus up front. Oliver and Alfie were on the bench for the first ten minutes.
At the blow of the whistle, Luke and Gus started the game. With Luke passing the ball to Paddy, he was off down the wing with the rest of the midfield following up into the Welwyn penalty area, awaiting the cross. Welwyn’s defence holding off a goal scoring opportunity by our Blues.
Welwyn tried to break down the centre but soon were halted by Daniel and Gus who made some superb tackles to sure up the midfield. With Daniel passing the ball out wide to Paddy, they were soon pushing Welwyn back into their own penalty box.
After the Blues attack broke down, Welwyn manage to push the Blues back into their own penalty area. With Oscar in defence, he stood up well and put in some goal saving tackles resulting in Welwyn being awarded a corner.
Now the Blues were calling on the services of their stand in goalie Ben, who made some now trademark saves!
Daniel being substituted for Alfie to play in midfield and Oliver coming on for Gus to play in the hole, the Blues reorganised themselves.
With Ben clearing the ball out of his box, the Blues were on the attack once again!!
Oliver playing the ball forward to Luke, who then passed the ball nicely onto Paddy, who was waiting in the penalty area to strike…GOAL!!!! Resulting in the score being 1-0 to the Blues.
With the whistle blowing for half time the Blues were in high spirits after playing some brilliant football.
At half time Daniel replaced Ben in goal. With no other substitution being made, the second half began with Welwyn taking the kick off.
There was some great midfield action by Kain and Alfie, resulting in Luke and Paddy forcing the Welwyn goalkeeper to make some good saves.
When Welwyn pushed back into the Blues penalty box, there was a great partnership between Oscar and Oliver, who cleared their lines many times.
Luke was now substituted for Gus, to tried and defend the Blues 1-0 lead for the last five minutes.
Welwyn continued to push hard for the equaliser and after a mass bundle of Blues in their penalty area, the ball unkindly fell to a Welwyn player who managed to squeeze the ball between Daniel and his goal post.
It was a not what the Blues deserved, as every player worked extremely hard in their positions to get the right result. Still it was a superb team effort by all the Blues.
Thanks again to cameo referee James dad!
Well done boys you made us proud!!
Keep up the good start to the season
PLD 4 = W2 D1 L1
LETCHWORTH EAGLES REDS v WELWYN
29th September 2007
Team (Ben P, Ben W, Daniel M, James, Jamie, Max, Theo, Zak)
James thoroughly earned the right to wear the captain’s arm band by showing some hard work and listening in training on Thursday. He led the team out to face WGC Youth who looked like they could cause some hassle. Ben P was between the uprights as usual, fresh as always despite having played for Spurs the night before (Spurs won 4-2) – well done Ben. Daniel M found himself as last man, a position new to him but he was looking fierce as always, Max sat in the hole and with Ben W finding himself in the Centre Midfield, to the right of him Theo who has showed over recent weeks he is a natural winger, James played on left and Zak spear headed the team up front with Jamie starting as sub this week.
New ref Que (Paddy’s dad) had to live up to the high standard’s Tosh (Oscar’s dad) had set in previous weeks. The ref set out with a look in his eye that he won’t tolerate any back chat and he wasn’t afraid to show a card or two. The whistle blew and the Eagles team started off with applying pressure to WGC. Max was picking everything up in the hole and distributing the ball well, when WGC did manage to get past the mighty Max, they had Daniel to contend with; he took to his new position well, never panicked and played some nice, simple football out of defence. Ben W bossed the mid field looking to spray the ball out wide to Theo and James. Zak wasn’t afraid to drop into midfield to help his team mates out; he battled away with some crunching but fair tackles. It wasn’t long before Theo picked up the ball and showed us way he was on form that day, he out paced most of the WGC team down the right, looked up and found Ben W charging through from midfield, Theo played an inch perfect ball into Ben who had now lost his marker and simply tapped the ball in the net.
Changes saw Jaime came on for a straight swap with James, who handed the captain’s arm band to Ben W. Again the Eagles went out to sniff another goal out. WGC broke a few times but really could trouble Ben P, he was picking everything up in those huge hands, or are his gloves oversized?! … The M cousins looked comfortable at the back and showed great battling capabilities and vision to feed the midfield trio. Jamie was keeping his shape well and we saw the little terrier in him come out again when WGC tried to get past him, has anyone actually managed to yet this season?! Theo picked up the ball again and performed a replica move as before with Ben W adding another to make his tally 5 so far this season, Derren simply smiled and quoted “that boy’s got goals in him”.
The half time whistle blew and Derren & Gary prised the boys for their efforts and gave a team talk spelling out that the game still wasn’t over and that they shouldn’t take their foot of the peddle in the second half. The team went out with no substitutions; but Max pushed up to take Zak’s role up front and Zak dropped into left midfield with Jamie going as last man. Theo moved in the middle to see what damage he could do there with Ben W dropping into the hole and Daniel M moving onto the Right. Derren & Gary’s total football policy appears to be some what of a success so far, we’ve been winning games and the boys are all yet to play a game together in what the spectators see as their normal positions. WGC came out looking hungry for a goal and weren’t ready to give up the game, fair play to them as it made for an entertaining second half. Again we saw some good football from both sides and the new shaped team adjusted comfortably. Daniel M and Max linked up well again and Max was unlucky not to have a few goals to his name. 5 minutes into the second half and James took ownership of the captain’s arm band once again coming on for superstar Theo (who must have worn an inch off his legs for all the running he done!). James, a player with great strength and ability took hold of the game and showed why he was boss for the day, Zak picked up the ball in midfield and took on a couple of players too unleashed a powerful drive at the keeper, his shoot was a good 15 yards out and you could see the fear in the keepers eyes as the ball travelled at such pace. The keeper didn’t stand a chance; it was a well deserved goal for Zak who had worked hard all game and his tally now standing at 10.
WGC still weren’t about to give up the fight and they continued to apply the pressure and break, some how they managed to penetrate the young Eagles defence and claw a goal back which was too late in the day for them to get back in the game. The ref kept the game flowing well and his decisions were spot on, even if Zak thought he should have been awarded a penalty! In all a well deserved victory for the team who still remain unbeaten this season. Well done boys.
LGCE Reds v Hormead Hares 22/09/07
Eagles Reds went into this game on a high after the 11-0 defeat of Bassingbourn the previous week.
Theo & Daniel started on the bench as the feeling was their fresh legs would be needed later on, Archie & James started in defence as the management experimented with their line-up.
The first half was very even with chances at a premium. Ben P pulled off a great save mid way through the half, whilst Max hit a speculative effort narrowly over the bar & Zak had a couple of half chances. Ben W always seemed to find space but the right pass never quite came. Archie & James were solid at the back, fending off the occasional foray from the Hares, with Jamie, playing in midfield, strong as ever in the challenge.
Towards the end of the half Eagles Reds started to take control, with Theo coming on up front & Daniel in midfield. The half ended goalless however.
Following a rousing half time team talk from Gary & Dez, the boys all agreed they wanted this game. Within 5 minutes of the restart Zak put in an inswinging corner that bamboozled the home goalkeeper… 1-0!! Zak’s first goal for the Reds following his successful debut for the Blues last week.
Eagles Reds were now firmly in control & despite the odd Hares attack being broken down by the defence & Ben P, Eagles looked the more likely. Daniel confirmed the points would be coming back to Letchworth with a great run into the left hand side of the box & a firm right foot finish into the bottom right hand corner. 2-0!!
It was all over & the Eagles Reds unbeaten start to the season continued. Well done boys!!
HORMEAD HARES 6 V LGC EAGLES BLUES 1
SATURDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER 2007
TEAM
Adam, Gus, Oliver, Paddy, Kain, Daniel B, Oscar, Luke, Alfie
The Blues were in high spirits after their home win last Saturday, against Bassingbourn Youth with the almighty result of 15 – 0.
Gus was back in the team as the last defender so everything was looking good. Hormead Hares started the game fast and not before long the Blues were a goal down.
With the Blues fighting spirit still in tact, they got back to their positions to restart the match.
Oscar as the mighty Blues Captain superbly slotted a pass through to Paddy, who set off down the left wing with the rest of the Blues pushing forward hunting for the equaliser.
Paddy crossed a lovely ball into the penalty area for Kain to run onto. Unfortunately the ball was intercepted by the Hares defence who fired the ball up the field to catch the Blues on the back foot.
With Gus and Oliver out numbered in defence against three of the Hares players, it was soon 2-0 to the Hares.
With the Blues battling away at every opportunity, they did not deserve to go another goal down, the score now 3-0.
But just before half time the Blues hard work paid off, with Oliver making a great pass from centre midfield to Paddy, who went on to score a cracking goal!
With Adam making great goalkeeping decisions, the Blues manage to keep the score to 3-1 at half time.
With the referee blowing the whistle for the second half, the Blues came on with the taste for more goals!!
With Luke in centre midfield making some darting runs and linking up superbly with Kain and Alfie, the Blues pushed the Hares back into there own penalty area many times.
Daniel B now in goal after the half time break, made some brilliant long down field kicks to Kain, Luke and Alfie who continued to battle on looking for another goal.
Unfortunately, the day belongs to the Hares as they continued to score another three goals on the break.
But the Blues did not stop battling from start to finish and played good quality football with excellent passing.
Well done boys and congratulations the Hormead Hares, who on the day were strong opponents.
LGC EAGLES REDS 11 BASSINGBOURN YOUTH 0 - Saturday 15th September
A bright summer’s day set the perfect setting for our 1st home game of the season.
The Eagles Reds cruised to victory over a spirited Bassingbourn Youth.
The Eagles were 5-0 at the break, with Daniels strong determined run providing the opening goal. Some excellent tackling and distribution by Max and Jamie kept our forward line busy.
Archie scored the second with a close-range finish, Daniel scored with a sublime chip and then a superb strike from James. Another goal from Archie in the space of a couple of minutes ensured Gary & Derren probably had to deliver the easiest of half-time team talks.
As the second half got under it was clear that the Reds were not content with sitting back on their lead. Gus powered forward looked up and found Theo in acres of space on the wing. Theo took one touch before delivering a perfect pass for Ben W to open his account for the season. Bassingbourn kept going but found it difficult to defend our endless attacks.
Daniel completed his hatrick after another fine passing move involving Ben W and James. The goals were now coming fast & furious, Ben W added another to his tally, then minutes later a well converted penalty by Theo.
Ben P’s goal was well protected by the Reds brick wall defence Jamie & Gus. Ben P didn’t have too much to do today but kept focused throughout. Versatile Max pushed up into midfield as Theo took our advantage into double figures!
Our boys were now queuing up to score against a tired Bassingbourn defence. Ben W finished our performance off with his 3rd goal of the match.
Final score ended 11-0 – well done to the boys who played some lovely passing football, and well done to our opponents Bassingbourn who never dropped their heads and battled to the end.
Special thanks to our referees today Kevin & Shaun!!
Saturday 8th September - The opening day of the season saw us travelling away to Royston Colts.
ROYSTON COLTS 1 LGC EAGLES REDS 1
A strong and tricky Royston side threatened early on and Eagles keeper Ben P was at his best to stop, the continued early pressure. Both Daniel and Jamie were busy winning tackles and clearing their lines as Royston threatened. The home side got their reward when a goal mouth scrabble landed nicely for them to score.
Our midfield generals Max & Ben W responded instantly, picking out passes for Theo to run at the defence, and get some crosses in.
The best move of the match came when Daniel won a strong challenge in defence, looked up and found Ben W in space. Ben whipped past one defender before playing wonderful cushioned pass to the feet of Archie, the Royston keeper sighed with relief as the shot whistled inches past the goal.
Gus was called into action, and soon we started to claw our way back into the game. We started to apply some pressure, Daniel was now finding some space to get forward and leave Jamie to defend our lines with some great bone crunching tackles!!
In the second half Royston sat back in numbers right from the start and set The Eagles the challenge of finding a way through their heavily banked lines. Max unleashed an early shot from outside the box, the Royston keeper just managed to hold onto it.
The Eagles stretched the hosts with Theo & Daniel causing grief with every foray forward and the industrious Gus and Ben W swarmed the back line at will.
Our equalizer finally came when a quick throw in by Ben W found Daniel, who raced the ball on to Archie to score from just out side the box.
Nail biting finish for Gary & Derren as a Royston striker broke through in the last minute, but Ben P made a fantastic save, pushing the shot wide to the safety of the retreating Gus & Ben W.
The final score 1-1 both teams played some great football, a draw was a fair result.
Well done boys!
ROYSTON COLTS 1 LGC EAGLES BLUES 2
The Blues produced a fine display to brush aside Royston in their 1st game of the season.
The Blues lined up with Adam in goal, Oscar & Luke in defence. James, Ollie & Paddy in midfield and Alfie upfront. Kaine and Gus were on the bench.
As in the first match the home side dominated early on, Adam was kept busy and his handling was excellent.
Luke and Oscar kept cool heads as Royston threw everything at us. But it wasn’t long before we found ourselves a goal down.
This prompted a Blues revival!
Oscar now took charge of our defence, giving Luke a chance to push forward.
We started to move into space and our passes started to connect.
Alfie was starting to see some action upfront, and he powered on, forcing many corners,
Royston were now pinned back to defend our onslaught.
Paddy started to get more of the ball and provided meaningful ammunition for his team-mates.
His pass was perfectly weighted into Luke’s path and his first-time strike found the bottom corner.
A great goal and well deserved for Luke, whose hard work throughout the match had finally paid off.
Ollie and Alfie continued to push onto the now tired Royston defenders, creating chance after chance.
Gus was once again called upon to give us more strength, he won everything.
Paddy twisted and turned and found James out on the right wing, with another trademark pass.
James using his powerful presence to unsettle the opposing defence, as he swivelled on the spot and brilliantly ran at the Royston defence, he looked up , the keeper hesitated then he unleashed a precise strike to give us a 2-1 advantage.
He’s goal celebration said it all!!
A great team performance by the Blues.
Well done boys!!
