LGCE White & Yellows Vs Knebworth (KW)

Game 1

Knebworth start the game strongly with most of the possession in opening minutes. Boys are not firing on all cylinders but some persistent chasing of the ball gives the Whites their first throw. Max times to Harry to Ben, he moves in on goal and KW are forced into a corner kick. Harry takes Ben picks up the ball but his shot is cleared. Whilst we are attempting to pass too many balls are either short or obvious and KW start intercepting our play, in one of these instants we are punished with a goal which is back heeled into the goal 0-1. Whites are determined to stay with it and Karlos and Max link well to get the ball from halfway line through a couple of defenders, another corner kick but Harry cannot connect it to any of the team so is easily cleared. KW make a great clearance and the pace of their players leaves us standing slightly, Dylan does a brilliant point blank save but one of the KW players is straight onto the follow up and buries the ball, nothing Dylan could have done to stop this 0-2. Dying first half minutes have Dylan at full stretch save (think superman) to keep the score at 0-2.

As so often with the Whites second half they come alive, passing is much tighter and effective with Lewis C, Ben, Harry and Karlos working well to keep pressure on. Although KW earn a couple of throws Aaron quickly intercepts to Max to Karlos who is unlucky with a miss hit. KW are quick on the break and Dylan has to make another series of great saves but with no Whites defender on hand to clear KW get another 0-3. At no time have the boys given up and I think this says a lot about their character and determination to continue to try to pass and play. Max does a great individual run down the left wing and is fouled just outside the box, he takes the free kick but shot is saved. As the final minutes tick away KW hit the cross bar but Aaron clears, to Max, to Harry, back to Max, to Ben whose shot is cleared off the line, this renewed energy has final pass between Max, Ben, Harry to Max who scores 1-3. If same effort in first half had been displayed we would have definitely given them more of a game but great to see the boys continue to be positive. 1-3

GAME 2  LGCE YELLOWS VS KNEBWORTH (KW)

Yellows very quick of the mark, Josh Mel sets the scene with a couple of good blocks on an approaching KW attack. Lewis M is darting around the field and picks up the ball to Josh Mel who slots it to Alfie B who forces a succession of corner kicks both of which are cleared. KW get on the break but Sam puts in a really good challenge and wins the ball. Josh, Sam and Lewis M are causing real panic as KW struggle to keep up with the passing between them and Alfie B is unlucky to see one of his shots cleared. Taylor picks the ball up midfield and charges towards goal, he passes to Lewis M who gets the yellows a corner which Elliott almost converts. Alfie B does another good tackle to win the ball and yet another corner kick is earned, pressure is mounting against KW and Aideen and Taylor all play a part in the eventual goal which Elliott tucks away 1-0. Half time

Second half is great to watch as all the boys work so hard to keep their structure and passing, within seconds Josh Mel, Taylor and Lewis M have seen a shot go wide and Aideen, Taylor and Alfie C works to intercept a KW attack, though Dylan does have to make a couple of saves he has been pretty quiet all the match. He clears the ball to Alfie C to Sam to Lewis M who earns yet another corner kick Josh Mel takes but KW pick up the ball and break, Sam is there and makes a great stop as we are exposed. Lewis M is having a fantastic game and seems to be everywhere, he wins a throw which Elliott picks up passes back and Lewis gets a well deserved goal 2-0. It is not long before a third is added but seems both Taylor and Lewis M get a toe on it so both share the goal 3-0. In final minutes Dylan manages to push out a save which Alfie C, Taylor work together to pass to Lewis M who gets his 2 ½ of the game 4-0!

LGCE White & Yellows Vs St Neots (STN)

Game 1

A very cold and wet Saturday morning and Josh M is already into his first save after a quick STN attack. Early burst of speed by STN is somewhat subdued as Whites earn a corner kick, Harry takes and Karlos swings his foot but just misses. Ball is cleared but Ben is alert and gets in a quick challenge to break up speed of play. STN are quick on the break and manage to pass through the defence and Josh M again has to make a couple of crucial stops. Pace is pretty quick and both teams are fighting to gain control. Whites manage to maintain possession and Harry lobs a ball over the defence as he spots karlos on a run, karlos hits the ball just over the cross bar, unlucky great vision. Max is busy as he reads a pass from STN player and intercepts the ball, flicks it to Karlos to Ben but shot is just wide. Some great passing and boys are starting to get upper hand in terms of flair and possession, though STN are sharp on the break and Lewis C has to clear a ball with Alfie C making sure for a STN corner kick, Josh in control of his area scoops the ball up. Harry picks up ball in midfield with a great turn on the player and links with Ben for the start of an incredible TEN pass move Harry/Ben/Harry/Ben/Karlos/Max/Aaron/Lewis C/Max, Karlos and though there wasn’t a shot on goal it did look pretty amazing. Aaron is kept busy at the back with a lively player who seems to be stuck to him, but he does well to turn him and clear the ball. Whites finish the first half stronger 0-0

Boys are fired up and Max earns a free kick, this is cleared for a throw which Max picks up to Karlos with Ben running in on the ball shoots and scores deadlock broken 1-0. It is not long before another piece of play between Harry and Ben who has another shot but this is wide. Boys playing with flair and Harry passes to Alfie C who puts the ball on the toes of karlos, back to Harry to Max and ball is played just out. STN push forward and earn a corner kick from a Josh M clearance in the goal and he follows up with another fine save. Aaron spots Karlos and he does his famous darting through the defence and easily converts to make it 2-0. STN respond immediately as we let in a very sloppy goal 2-1. Harry get the ball from the restart to Alfie C who challenges and is reward with a corner kick, Harry comes on and Josh Mel takes but effort is cleared. Remaining 5 minutes has whites firmly in control with Karlos managing a couple of attempts as well as our defenders doing what is necessary to keep out STN final whistle 2-1 to us!

GAME 2 LGCE YELLOWS VS ST NEOTS ( STN)

Before the boys have even warmed up STN go straight on the attack and grab a goal 0-1. Yellows pick themselves straight up and even though conditions have not improved Alfie B is straight on the attack after intercepting the ball, brings it down the wing to Lewis M who shoots wide. Dylan has to make a couple of great stops to thwart a second goal but remains cool. Alfie B is making up so much ground and has a shot cleared off the line quickly followed by Lewis M who also sees his effort cleared. Alfie C picks the ball up in our own area and passes to Taylor who shows great skill in getting passed a couple of STN players, his pace makes it difficult for them to catch him. First half finishes with Yellows pressing all the time 0-1

Yellows continue after the whistle with Lewis M applying sufficient pressure for STN to lose possession, his run forces a corner kick but STN clear. A couple of subs my the coach quickly pays off when Lewis M and Taylor putting in some great touches with Taylor equalizing for the yellows 1-1. Harry and Lewis M who seem to have a great awareness between them, get another goal as Harry lobs a defender knowing that Lewis M will be lying in wait for the ball and he executes a great move with clinical finishing, 2-1. Ben comes on also and spots the keeper off his line and does a wonderful chip almost from the halfway line straight into the goal 3-1. Yellows in cruise control and each pass better than the last. Sam is working so hard and shepherds any stray balls away from danger, Dylan has one save to make which is all he has done in this half. Harry picks up the ball from Alfie B and shoots and whilst we know it went over of the line, ref refuses to give the goal, not to worry the two goal cushion is sufficient to see us through to the end of another great victory 3-1.

LGCE White & Yellows Vs HITCHIN

GAME 1 WHITES

Hitchin waste no time and get the first shot of the match, but Josh calmly scoops it up. Josh M lays nice ball out to Alfie C to Harry who switches it to Max back to Harry to Karlos who quickly turns and shoots, unlucky as it is saved. Eagles start producing some really nice touches and quickly settle into the game. Another combination pass between Max, Harry, Ben and Karlos ends the same way with the shot being saved, but all positive. Hitchin are dangerous on the break though and Eagles stand off slightly allowing them room to launch the ball up field, Alfie C at the back is under pressure but puts the ball out for a corner kick to Hitchin. This is the first of two but Josh does enough both times to clear and finally claim the ball. Against the run of play but in fairness to Hitchin a defensive error gives them room and they waste not time in slotting the ball home, 1-0.

Boys do not let this bother them and continue to step up the pace with a good spell of pressure, another six pass move which is a pleasure to watch results in a corner kick. Harry places the ball and whips in a lovely curler straight into the net, yes! 1-1. Half finishes with a brilliant run by Max on the back of a pass from Alfie, Max forces a save but corner cannot be converted. HT 1-1

As so often recently Whites take a few minutes to wake up from the whistle and allow Hitchin to dominate and they quickly secure a second goal 2-1. All the good work from the first half though does continue and with Aaron on replacing Lewis through injury we start to intercept more of the balls and play our way up field, a great move starting with Ben running down the wing, spots Harry who slots the ball over to karlos who buries the ball in the net for the equalizer and in fairness deserved. As soon as Hitchin restart the match eagles pounce on a loose ball and karlos does a wonderful lobb of the keeper for a great individual goal bring us for the first time in front 3-2! As the dying minutes produce some great movement from both teams Hitchin get space on the ball and punish the whites with a clean strike which Josh does so well to get his finger tips too but he cant keep it out and Hitchin equalize 3-3.

Whistle blows and if the boys had kept the pressure on could have been a victory but none the less a good game with some cracking goals.

Game 2 YELLOWS

Unfortunately due to having to dash off was not around to report on second game though can tell you from all accounts a belter with Yellows winning comfortably 4-1.

LGCE White & Yellows Vs Arlesey

GAME 1 WHITES

Scrappy start to the game with a number of passes either being played too short or not accurately. Whites get the first throw of the game which Ben takes but Arlesey quick to intercept, they go on the attack and Lewis C gets in a great tackle as Arlesey steam forward. Whites a bit slow to react and Arlesey get a shot on goal which Josh catches comfortably. Pressure is mounting and a poor pass allows Arlesey to split the defence and they waste no time in finishing 0-1. A nice pass to Karlos from the restart see’s him make a great darting run forcing a corner kick but too many in the box and it is cleared. Straight up the other end and Whites are defending two corner kicks in succession with Ben clearing the first then Arron. A glimpse of the great passing the boys can do is briefly seen when Max picks up the ball from a clearance to Alfie C to Ben which produces a good save from the keeper. Whites are under a lot of physical pressure from Arlesey and not really getting the time to play their football but the continue to battle and start to concentrate, though they see the first half out covering a number of corners which Lewis M gets in a well time challenged to clear the ball from danger HT 0-1

Ben lively from the whistle and looks to create a chance, he manages to secure not one but four throws for the whites, this pressure early on begins to pay off when Ben starts a move to Harry to Max who gets a corner kick from a shot on goal. Harry takes the corner whips it in and finds the feet of Max who converts, 1-1. A good spell for the whites with some great footwork between Alfie C, Max, Ben, Harry & Karlos whose pace is really frustrating the Arlesey defence and whites unfortunate not to improve of their earlier goal. Just when you thought it was safe! Arlesey poach the ball and Josh is forced into a diving save with Arlesey going in for the rebound, nothing goalie could do and no whites around to clear, ball hits the net 1-2. Almost within minutes Arlesey again split the defence and punish the whites with a third. Boys continue to battle and whilst the score line might suggest that they were dominated, that is not how it was and right to the last minute when Ben, Harry, Max fire off

a last shot which was saved the whole team played good football. Final score 1-3

GAME 2 YELLOWS

Right from the start Aiden passes a great ball to Sam who spots Taylor on a run who places it wide of the net. Pace of the match is now set as both teams are fighting to get to each ball first. Arlesey muscle their way through on goal but Lewis M right in the thick of it and does a great interception using his head. A couple of attacks by Arlesey but Yellows standing firm with Josh Mel getting in everytime and clearing. Yellows are playing really well and Josh picks up the ball from Josh M (goalie), to Alfie B to Sam who is unlucky as shot is just outside the post. Bit of a scare as Taylor who is in on goal picks up an injury from a tackle. Arlesey pick up possession but Aiden is solid in covering, they just can’t find a way through. Another Josh Mel/Aiden move which ends with a great shot from Aiden. Boys are really confident and Arlesey struggling to keep up with the great passing. Lewis C manages to intercept and passes to Alfie B who has a run on goal and hits the cross bar!

Confidence is high and Josh Mel hits a cracker from the halfway line and unlucky not to score, though the danger is not ever far away as Josh Mel takes a ball at point blank range straight in the face, he does well to stay on his feet and continues the game, well done Josh Mel. Yellows are creating more and more chances with Alfie B and Lewis M producing some good passes, Josh Mel gets on the end of one of them and fires a shot on goal and watches as it sails into the net, yes finally 1-0 and first goal for Josh Mel and what a cracker! Half time 1-0

Yellows straight on attack with Lewis M getting first shot on target, followed by a nice turn passing to Alfie B who wins a throw. Arlesey get a good clearance and don’t waste it by pushing for an equalizer but Aiden is there to get another well timed challenge in. Alfie B picks up the loose ball and Yellows have SIX chances on goal including shots from Josh Mel, Alfie B and Lewis M yet none can convert. Buoyed on by this great spell a move started by Sam to Josh Mel, to Alfie B to Ben who fires in a great goal for a 2-0 lead. Yellows finish the game completely in control as they have been for most of the game. Final whiste 2-0

LGCE White & Yellows VS Baldock Templars 1st November 2008

Game 1 Whites

Whites revert to their usual one good game one bad with what can only be described as the slowest and scrappiest match I have seen for some time, sorry boys! Passing between the boys was non existent as BT but them under a lot of physical pressure from the start. It was not long before we are defending our first of many attempts from BT to score and Aaron performs heroics by clearing it off the line! Josh M, Lewis C, Ben R, Harry, Ben earns a throw but BT manage to clear it. As the half progresses we do see some passing and Max pulls the ball across the face of the BT goal but no one there to put it into the net. Aaron solid at the back gets in not one but two crunching tackles as he never gives up on the ball. Lewis C also is providing great cover as BT finish the first half stronger. 0-0

Second half and boys now start to match BT challenge for challenge and are as physical as BT have been, if you can’t beat them, join them! Ben R has a great run down the wing and gets a shot in to earn a corner kick, Harry takes and Max tries to convert but too many BT bodies ensures no luck. This is followed up by another well worked pass between Lewis C, Harry, Ben R and this time Lewis M forcing a corner and whilst no goal Whites are starting to play a bit better. Max does a great nutmeg on one of the BT players as Ben R picks up the ball and takes the ball halfway down the pitch and fires of shot, yes a goal 1-0. BT are shocked (as are the parents if honest) to be down by a goal as they have in fairness the majority of the possession and shots, but thanks to Josh M and boys at the back have kept them out. Just at that point though a defensive error allows BT a gifted opportunity to bring it back level when a clearance goes horribly wrong and BT get the ball and score 1-1. Whites see out the match defending 4 corners valiantly as game ends in a draw. 1-1

Game 2 Yellows

Yellows start well with Aideen, Josh Mel, Elliott and Ben K linking to give first shot of the match. Physical element of the game continues with boys having to match the BT boys who make this most of their game. Aideen has to work hard at the back blocking a number of challenges and Sam picking up the loose balls trying to work it down the pitch, between them they earn a Yellow throw. Josh Mel takes to Alfie who is floored by a challenge and cannot take any further part in the match. Sam has a great run riding a couple of tackles but too many BT players and not enough support stops the run. BT counter and shot, it hits the cross bar and we are amazed as it stays out. Josh Mel, Max, Elliott pass to Sam who has a shot saved, Ben K is waiting to pick up the ball but he too has his shot saved. Another challenge this time gives Yellows a free kick from halfway line, up stands Josh Mel (aka Juice) and belts a fantastic shot into the goal area taking everyone by surprise as it nearly finds the target. Yellows finish strongly 0-0

BT are out blazing and Dylan quickly has to clear the ball from his area as does Josh and Aideen as we ride a couple of good attempts on goal. BT dispossess one of the yellow players and make us pay by scoring 0-1, this is followed up after a great save by Dylan with a second 0-2. Yellows continue to plug away and the two Bens and Sam manage to get a shot on target. Straight away Harry, Ben R force a corner and Max is just wide when the ball swings in. BT aren’t finished but a brilliant leg save by Dylan stops a definite 3rd going in and yellows manage to counter quickly with Josh Mel great ball to Ben R to Ben K who shots, saved but Ben R is waiting and buries the ball 1-2. A final flurry of activity in the box fails to get the equalizer and game ends 1-2

LGCE White & Yellows VS Rising Stars

Game 1 Whites

Rising Stars (RS) get in with the first attack but Josh M covers the goal without any danger. Whites absorb some pressure as RS gain 3 throws in quick succession as Aaron and Lewis cover well, fortunately these come to nothing, but show we need to be alert. It’s not long before we see a good ball out from Aaron to Max to Karlos, but ball has a bit too much pace and goes out for goal kick. Whites are starting to think about their moves and Ben R , Harry, Lewis C pass well between themselves and Max calls the ball and charges on goal only to see the keeper make a brilliant save to deny him a goal, but gets a corner kick. Harry takes and Karlos manages to get a head on it but its just wide. Goalie clears but Harry intercepts flicks it to Karlos but again the shot is just wide. Whites turn up pressure and have 3 good chances including a very well worked pass between Lewis C, Max,Harry back to Max and keeper again saves. However, RS are quick to pick up the loose ball and hurtle towards the Whites goal with Josh having to make a full stretch stunning save and follows up with another great stop as RS finish the half strongly.

Couple of changes at half time to see if we can break down the tight RS defence, and is fruitful as Whites quickly put the RS under pressure with two corner kicks and then finally great worked ball with Max, Karlos who blasts one but is saved but Lewis M always waiting picks up an great tap in to break the deadlock 1-0. Confidence is high and the legendary passing again manifests itself with a 9 pass move involving the whole team and whilst it doesn’t end with a goal is great to watch. Alfie C is really making himself busy and threading some nice balls to Ben R who returns it, gets it back and has a shot just wide. Karlos intercepts a loose ball and does a great turn, spots Lewis M who wastes no time in converting for number 2! 2-0. Again good awareness between Alfie C, Karlos and Ben just wide, just as the clock winds down the boys kick up another gear and with the last move of the match with Max, Lewis C to Lewis M has a go and gets his hatrick, brilliant, game ends 3-0.

Game 2

Yellows start with Alfie B in with two great tackles, as RS are definitely in attack mode following the previous game. Defence have their work cut out as RS push on goal but Jayden gets in with a well time tackle to break flow of game. Alfie B and Ben K force a corner kick but cannot covert. RS waste no time and start a move up field which has Aideen providing excellent cover and passes to Sam. Sam manages to put RS under enough pressure to earn a throw.....rest of report lost ..... we lost 3-0!

HERTS COUNTY CUP - LGCE White Vs St Albans

Whilst I don’t usually do a match report for cup games this one definitely deserves a mention. Never having played or heard of the team it’s a pretty open game with Whites absolutely up for it with great challenges and passing between the boys (think they have learnt their lesson from last week). Aaron starts a great move at the back down the line to Max to Karlos who is running rings around the St Albans players and has a couple of shots on target but that are saved. Whites keep up the pressure and Harry passes to Ben R to Karlos who has a blast at goal 1-0. Buoyed by this early start they quickly grab a second courtesy of Karlos 2-0. What seems like a rampage now as everytime whites get the ball you think they are going to score see’s Max get a third with again sublime passing between all the players 3-0 into the break. Josh M managed to read a magazine such was the lack of action in his area!

Well whatever the ST Albans coach said it worked as Whites are shell shocked as they pull back two goals within two minutes of the opening whistle, Josh M worked so hard to keep them out but had little chance. 3-2, what seemed like a breeze is now game on and very nervous mum’s and dads standing open mouthed at the touch line!! Whilst most teams heads may have started to drop a little not the boys, they kept their composure and their passing together knowing another opportunity would come, and it did. Karlos who has made the defenders life a misery with his pace and turning earns us a corner kick, Harry goes to do the honours and only puts in the net, 4-2, and just the goal we needed to keep us in the driving seat. With that goal comes some of the best football we have ever seen the boys play, Harry follows up his goal and hits the cross bar with a brilliant volley but Max is there for the rebound and its 5-2. Ben R who has worked so hard all morning picking up the loose balls, forcing ST Albans into making errors is rewarded for his efforts with a great shot and our 6 th! Game ends 6-2 and made the early cold start seem worthwhile

LGCE White and Yellows Vs Bishops Stortford (BS)

GAME 1 WHITES

Very scrappy start to the game with whites unable to control or pass the ball to their usual standards. BS make the first attempt on goal and Aaron is forced to kick the ball out for a throw, they manage to get a shot on goal from the throw and ball is cleared for a corner. This becomes the first of two and Whites do just enough to quell the danger as Josh collects the second. He throws a good ball to Lewis C who passes to Harry who has listened to his coach and ‘switches’ the ball to Max who forces a corner kick for the whites, Harry takes and ball is cleared. Boys are standing still almost as BS get to the ball first in most instances and it seems we are still half asleep. This is punished by BS who are constantly threatening the goal area and the inevitable happens they get a goal 0-1! You would think this is the wake up call but no, Whites still are flat footed to the ball but do start to show some improvement with Max taking the ball down the wing and getting in a shot, Karlos picks up the rebound which is cleared for a corner kick, Harry takes passes to Max who shots but is just wide, that’s more like it. Eagles pull together a six pass move between Ben, Harry, Max, Karlos back to Ben to Karlos but shot is saved, however BS counter and go into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Well whatever the coach said seems to have done the trick as they boys do look like they are actually moving now another six pass move this time between Harry, Max, Ben, Harry to Karlos back to Harry who shoots with left but is wide. BS are not finished and keep playing a physical attacking game, however Aaron is giving as good as he gets. Josh M is forced to make a couple of quick saves and manages to lay off a nice ball to Alfie C who makes a great impact on the game he finds Karlos who passes back and Alfie C shoots just wide. Whites are starting to push harder and are winning more of the tackles, Max manages to pull one back for the Whites and its game on for the last few minutes as they pile on the pressure, they almost succeed in finding the equalizer with a last minute shot and corner kick, however games ends in defeat but much better second half 1-2

GAME 2 YELLOWS

Yellows have obviously seen what happened in the first match and are very lively from the off. Taylor manages to get in a decent shot in the opening minutes but BS pick up the loose ball and bring it up field, Dylan has to manage a tricky up and under shot but smothers the ball. He clears the ball to Josh Mel who superbly passes the ball down the line which Taylor picks up and charges straight on goal, he has two attempts saved. Yellows are really cranking up the pace and Lewis M manages to cover so much ground and lay off some really great passes, one is to Alfie B who has a go on goal and is unlucky not to score, however Taylor is waiting in the wings and buries the ball 1-0. They waste no time from the restart and are straight in with a corner kick earned by Lewis M putting BS under pressure, Alfie B takes and Taylor shoots wide. Another great moved started by Lewis M has Taylor, Ben K and Alfie have three attempts on goal with the forth going in courtesy of Taylor 2-0. half time

Shows the pressure BS are under as they decide to bring on the majority of the their first team, which pays of as they secure two goals in quick succession bringing the game back to 2-2. You might wonder are Yellows going to fade, but what develops has to be one of the best 10-15 minutes of football. Not only did the Yellows step up to the plate they kept up the pressure with Alfie B intercepting a clearance giving Ben K a chance which he duly takes 3-2, are they finished, absolutely not they then start to make an example of the fact that BS have changed their whole team with Sam and Alfie B who are having a superb game again rides a challenge from BS almost scores and Ben K is on hand to tap in. 4-2, whistle blows and boys come off the field not only the better players but maintained their squad throughout. Well done boys!

LGCE White & Yellows VS Stevenage Boro Lions & Tigers 4 th October 2008

Game 1 Whites

We expected a fast start to the game but didn’t imagine we would be defending a corner kick within seconds of the whistle, luckily boys remember what they are doing and do enough to give Josh M chance to save, which he does. Boys begin to settle and our first real pass of the game see’s Harry pick the ball in midfield and lay it off to Karlos who is so fast and gives the defenders a real headache, he spots Max but Boro intercept the pass, that does not stop Max as he challenges and wins back the ball. Boro are pressing on goal but Lewis C clears for a Boro throw which Whites do enough to get a goal kick. Josh M throws out to Arron, to Harry to Max who is unlucky as shot goes wide. Both sides are evenly matched halfway through the first half and Boro seem somewhat surprised at the game Whites are giving them. Good pressure allows Whites first corner kick but Boro clear, they waste no time and we see two consecutive corners both cleared by Lewis C headers, great defending. The last gives Whites the break with Max on the ball who blisters down the line and throws off a couple of tackles with one objective to score, his perseverance pays off and Whites take the lead 1-0! Whites continue to press for a second with karlos picking up the ball from Lewis M who has won the ball but he is on his own and Boro quickly get people back behind the ball. Half time whistle goes 1-0 whites.

Boro manager screams at his lads to ‘switch on’ us mums thought he was referring to a kettle and looking forward to a warm cup of tea, alas no. Within minutes Boro who have been pressing and though Ben R does two fantastic tackles the constant pressure gives Boro an equalizer 1-1. Josh M has his goalie skills tested and does two brilliant saves pushing the ball round the post. Big thanks to Josh Mel’s granddad Bob who tackles the undergrowth to retrieve the ball, contender for man of the match! Whites continue to match Boro move for move and Max does a lovely stepover to pass to Ben R, pass to Karlos, Harry calls for the ball and shoots but wide. Boro again put defenders under pressure and Arron who has saved Whites on many occasions during the match again gets a foot in, we are living dangerously. What has to be the move of the match has Arron again picking up the ball to Harry who passes to Max who lets the ball go and switches totally confusing Boro and we are so unlucky as shot is saved for a Whites corner. Harry whips in the ball and Boro a bit unsure at the back nearly put the ball in their own net but goalie saves the day for them! Final few minutes see Boro press for the winner but Whites do enough to keep them out and earn a well deserved draw and what has to be our best match of the season ( I know its only 4 games!) 1-1

Game 2

After the first match we were eagerly anticipating the next game and what a game it was. Boro are like lightening as soon as whistle blows and Yellows before they have time to organise at the back are 0-1 down. Josh Mel and Aiden then proceed to spend next five minutes blocking, challenging, tackling and generally protecting the Yellows goal and do this brilliantly. Ben R is busy in the middle of the pitch manages not one but two outstanding tackles he then takes the ball into Boro goal area where Alfie puts a great shot in, goalie saves but poacher Taylor is waiting in the wings and buries the ball in the net for equalizer 1-1. Boro again start pushing up field and Josh Mel again covers really well, Boro get a corner. Yellows do well to clear but Boro have numbers and manage to take the lead again 2-1. Sam has come on and instantly puts Boro under pressure with a great tackle which forces a throw, Yellows do enough to clear back to Dylan who does a lovely long kick Ben K picks it up and runs towards goal he shoots but is cleared only as far as Taylor who grabs his second of the match and brings us back to level terms 2-2

Aiden is kept busy with well timed challenges and thoughtful passing to Lewis M who manages to keep Boro on their toes by nipping into space and finding Ben R who again runs through defence but no one to finish. Boro who bring on some fresh legs proceed to walk the ball into the net for their 3 rd goal which on balance of game is generous. Yellows battle hard and have a couple of chances again with Lewis M and Alfie linking up but unlucky not to punish Boro. Some tired legs due to the sheer pace of the game and Boro finish the match with a forth which flatters them. Final whistle 2-4 to Boro but what another exciting and action packed game.

Both teams played so well and kept composure and passing, a credit to their coaches!

LGCE White & Buntingford Cougars Blues & Whites 27 th September

Game 1 Whites

BC get first shot of the match which is dealt with comfortably by Josh M. He clears the ball to Lewis C who passes to Karlos who is fouled, Whites get a free kick, Harry takes and ball gets a bounce which so nearly goes into the net but is inches wide. Whites enjoy a good spell with Harry, Karlos and Ben R forcing BC to defend deeply, though they do clear. Arron is called upon to cover at the back and wins a Whites throw, Arron picks out Max, to Harry, BC intercept for another whites throw which Ben R picks up and takes ball up the line past a couple of challenges and still manages a shot which is wide. The game is picking up pace and BC are starting to get in with some well time tackles forcing Lewis C to run all over the back to keep them out from goal, they do manage one shot and Josh M produces a great save. Josh M clears to Arron who passes to Ben R who produces a great run into the box to Karlos who passes to Harry who scores 1-0. Whites dominate the remaining minutes and karlos is unlucky as too much pace on the ball takes it away from him just as he is poised to shoot.

Second half begins and BC waste no time in taking early possession, they have couple of shots in the first few minutes which Josh M does well to save, he is certainly earning his bacon roll today! Whites revert to playing deep and this allows BC to keep on the pressure they shoot and what we believe is a fantastic clearance off the line by Lewis C turns to horror as ref awards a goal, unfortunately no replay and decision stands 1-1. Whites seem to start to unravel and passes are either short or snatched giving BC more opportunity to test Arron, Lewis and Josh M. All three keep Whites in the game but no matter how hard we try playing so deep means that when we clear BC are waiting for the clearance and get their second 1-2. Game ends disappointingly.

Game 2 Yellows

Lewis M starts the game with a great tackle, BC seem to be picking up where they left off in game one. Taylor works really hard and challenges every ball and shows great speed. BC have at least 3 players chasing every ball and is difficult as it was for whites to actually pass when sheer volume of people in your way. BC earn a corner kick which Aiden blocks beautifully, a quick second corner kick has Alfie clearing from the box. Lewis M picks the ball up from Dylan and passes to Taylor who is unlucky as BC intercept. Sam is getting in some important challenges to try and break up play by BC. Aiden goes for a challenge and ends up injured, coach appears with what looks like a magic spray can! Hopefully he is not turning into arlesey man, few quick sprays but Aiden comes off for a few minutes with a knock on the head. BC continue to pressurise and earn a goal with what was a good move and team play. 0-1.

Yellows begin second half with Dylan pulling off a stunning save, Aiden gets the ball and links with Taylor who does well to force a corner kick, Ben R takes but comes to nothing. BC do a quick clearance and Dylan does enough to put them off as balls whips into side netting. Yellows then play pinball in front of goal with ball going between several players before Sam manages to clear it. Ben K has a couple of attempts but BC throw everyone behind the ball so makes it difficult to get a clear shot on goal. Josh Mel who has again had a brilliant game gets another crucial block in to thwart another shot and whilst Yellows end the game on the corner kick we are unlucky to convert and games end 0-1

LGCE White and Yellows Vs LGCE Oranges and Blacks

Game 1

You would expect nothing less than a lively start to the eagerly anticipated derby match, and that’s exactly what we got. Oranges are onto the ball and Ben R gets in with the first challenge which produces an Orange throw, Lewis C intercepts with a well placed header but loose ball falls to Oranges who waste no time in firing off a shot, which Arron blocks and Josh M tidies up at the back. Ben R picks up the ball passes to Lewis M who whips a shot across the face of goal, pressure from Max forces Oranges to clear for a Whites corner, Harry takes but ball is cleared. Oranges are forcing Whites to play deeper than we would like but Arron and Lewis C are valiant at the back and try to block every pass. Max does well to get back and cover as Oranges press for a goal. Josh M has to make two fine consecutive saves and one excellent save when Elliott has a shot on goal for the Oranges. Whites start to settle down and begin their legendary passing game (well it is to us). Lewis C starts a move from the back to Ben, Max and Harry has a shot which just sails over the bar. Karlos who has come on for Lewis M makes a dazzling run and is one on one with the goalie, he shoots and Charlie produces a stunning save from close range, quickly followed up by a second. Final play of the first half has Lewis M providing good protection from an Oranges attack and manages to lay the ball on for Harry who finds Ben who is unlucky as his strike is saved 0-0

Oranges are quick of the mark and Whites are defending two corner kicks which Josh M covers. More pressure from Oranges but Arron is cool as he clears for a throw to slow down any attack. A long clearance from Josh M to Arron and with Lewis C moving into midfield Whites are moving in on goal, Oranges quick to clear and Whites have a corner kick, Harry takes and finds the head of Lewis C as it just flies past the upright. As Oranges clear we are slightly exposed at the back but Lewis C does a fantastic job on covering ground quickly to put in a challenge, it does result in a free kick which Josh M saves on the line, lots of hearts in mouth from sidelines! Whites now start to have more of the ball and are pushing up attacking goal, they win two corner kicks in quick succession and through pressuring the Oranges defence see the ball go in for a goal off an Orange player 1-0. Whites do well to see out the remaining minutes as Oranges are determined to equalize but Whites do enough to maintain the lead and a very thrilling and physical game for the boys ends 1-0.

Game 2

Dylan has to immediately make first save in opening seconds of the game, pace is fast and Blacks are pressing hard. Aiden does an excellent intercept of a pass from Blacks and spots Karlos, he passes but Karlos is unlucky as ball zips past the post. Almost immediately Blacks have the defenders under pressure and Dylan has two very quick saves to make but the constant threat eventually pays of and Blacks are rewarded with a goal 0-1. From the restart Karlos poaches the ball and makes a dazzling individual run which is met by an equally brilliant save by Charlie, who unfortunately for us is in fine form, though I do think such was the force of the shot his hands are stinging. Aiden is all over the pitch putting in a foot to tackle and break the blacks play, a good link play between Karlos, Alfie and Aiden is unlucky not to see a goal as his shot is cleared. Josh Mel is solid as ever at the back and delivers a great ball down the line to Alfie who puts the Blacks under enough pressure to win a corner kick, Blacks manage to clear, quick sub with George coming on and Sam off. George quickly picks up a pass from Alfie and with Aiden looking for the shot delivers a great ball which again is saved off the line. Blacks keen to extend their lead and with a good passing combination go into the half time with a second goal 2-0. Injury to Dylan means Josh M has to go into goal.

Yellows start with a run from Karlos towards goal and again we see his shot go wide. Aiden is putting the Blacks under pressure with tackles and determination to win the ball, his efforts are rewarded when he passes to Ben R who is so unlucky not to score. Quick on the attack Blacks against the run of play in the previous five minutes manage to tuck away a third 0-3. Straight from the whistle Yellows are now going for every ball and in most cases winning them, we see a new urgency in them to try to get the ball up field to create chances and finally after 2 good attacks Karlos runs in passes to Ben R who tucks away 1-3. As Blacks try to clear George intercepts and does enough to force a corner kick, which when taken only requires a tap in but no one is there!!! Still not finished George again in midfield picks up the ball and delivers a pass to Karlos who shoots and rewarded with a goal 2-3. Is there time here to pull off a fantastic recovery, they try with a last effort from Ben R that is saved. Final score 2-3

LGCE White and Yellows Vs Sawbridgeworth (SAW)

Game 1

First game of the season and boys look a bit nervous, passing is not at 100% completion but its early days. First real move of the game starts with a throw out from goalie Josh M to Ben R to Harry to Karlos who forces a corner, SAW get on the end of the throw and do a long ball into our area which Lewis C runs back to clear. Whites manage to throw off a challenge and Ben takes the ball down the line forcing an early corner kick, Harry takes but SAW clear. SAW are winning the 50/50 balls and put together a nicely worked pass which allows them a shot, which goes wide. Whites proceed to waste two good throw in opportunities and have to defend as SAW settle into play. What is encouraging to see is that the boys do not lose their shape and continue to plug away with their passing with Max, Ben R & Karlos linking well, the pace has increased and Max is all over the field looking for an angle to score, he does not have to wait long until a good clearance from Arron to karlos who does a very good stop turn move picks the ball up and rattles one straight into the back of the net 1-0. Straight from the restart SAW continue to battle and just before half time manage to secure an equalizer. 1-1. We think we are getting ready for the whistle but SAW have other ideas and we go into the break 1-2 down, time to wake up boys.

Coach has a chat with boys working on the positives of the first half and they all seem relaxed going into the second half. Before we have even had time to put our teas away Max produces a great individual run and earns Whites and his second of the match 2-2. This was the start they needed and from that moment they boys delivered the sort of football we have come to expect. Two attempts on goal from Harry and Ben R either hit the post or are inches wide of it, but the third attempt gives Max his hatrick and eagles the lead 3-2. SAW are not by any means out of it and have Josh M smothering the ball on his line as they shoot, he has to do exactly the same moments later when SAW intercept a pass. His clearance down the middle allows Harry to take a shot which keeper saves and subsequent free kick Whites earn is also saved. Lewis M comes on for Karlos and has immediate effect of forcing SAW into rash challenge in the box, penalty for the Whites, Harry steps up to take and buries it into left hand corner 4-2. Boys finish the game in control and smiling

Game 2

Whilst the first game was a nervous start this is definitely a frantic one, lots of balls zinging around the pitch like a pin ball. Aiden manages to get first real contact with a good ball to Taylor who is unlucky as ball runs off for SAW kick. Alfie quick on the clearance passed back to Taylor but the ball is just a couple of inches outside his reach. Josh Mel is shouldering the back line and clearing anything that comes his way, his kick up the line has Alfie charging after the ball and does enough to earn a corner kick, ball is passed in and Alfie has a good attempt with Lewis M just wide of the post on the rebound. Lewis M is at heart of a good spell for Whites going in for every ball and with a great shot has his shot cleared but Ben K manages to get a shot on goal and scores 1-0. Sam, Aiden and Lewis in the middle of the pitch build up with a good move and shot which goes wide. They maintain pressure until whistle blows for half time 1-0.

SAW come out looking for equalizer but again Josh Mel gets in with a good firm challenge, the ball is picked up by SAW and Dylan has to get down for a shot which he saves. The game is fairly balanced with SAW getting in some good passing moves but Josh Mel is equal to it and Lewis M with some excellent tackles, Taylor has a fantastic run and passed to Alfie who is shoots, shot is saved and Aiden goes in for rebound, hits the post but Taylor is waiting for the ball and tucks away yellows 2 nd 2-0. With a two goal lead the boys settle down and control the passing and game by keeping possession, Aiden even produces a nice nutmeg through the legs of one of the SAW players but has his effort cleared. Last effort of the game has Karlos running in on ball but it sails over bar, 2-0

Great start for both teams.
