Want to be a Football Coach and Manage a Team?

Frequently Asked Questions

Q – How much time is involved?

About 2 -3 hours on a match day. (Saturday am for U7 to U9 and Sunday for U10 to U18 and one evening a week training. You are required to attend a club managers meeting every other month (a full evening 8 – 10pm at Sports Corner, Whitethorn Lane, Letchworth)

Q – What help will I get?

The aim is to get as many parents involved as possible to help you with training, and on match days etc.

Q – Is there much administration or paperwork?

The club will arrange your fixtures for you and allocate pitches. You have to make sure that result cards are returned to the Fixtures Secretary immediately after the game for Under 10 to Under 18 teams. We will deal direct with the league so you can concentrate on running the team.

Q – I have no experience in coaching or running a team. Will I receive training?

Yes – all coaches must obtain an FA Level 1 coaching qualification during their first season and keep first aid and child protection certificates up to date.

Q – Will this be expensive for me?

No. The club will pay all costs of training at level 1.

Q – If I want to obtain higher qualifications will the club support me?

Yes. We encourage personal development of coaching skills and grants are available to obtain qualifications at level 2 and 3.

Q – Will the club supply the player’s kit and training equipment?

Yes. We will make sure that you have sufficient kit, balls and basic training equipment to run a team. The team will be expected to do some fund raising and find a sponsor if possible.

Q – Will I have to complete an application form and what other procedures do I have to comply with before I can be appointed as a coach or manager?

The club has a recruitment policy, details which are on the club web site. You must be CRB checked and any appointment as a volunteer to work with children and young person’s will be subject to a satisfactory report from the CRB.

Q – What about training facilities?

The club has block bookings on the all weather surface at Sports Corner, Letchworth and at Knights Templar School, Baldock, but you will be expected to pay the costs of hire by collecting contributions from the players. The annual club subscription does not include training fees.

Q – Other than running a team do I have to do anything else for the club?

Yes. We run a summer tournament and you will be asked to help out subject to your availability on a particular day.
