HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREM DIVISION
Despite having almost 80 % of possession Eagles missed chances to score and fell to defeat in the final seconds of the game.
Eagles started brightly with almost constant pressure in the first 20 minutes. Three times the ball was cleared off the Bovingdon goal line as eagles forced 8 corners, but then in a rapid counter attack the visitors went ahead when a cross from the right was pushed home at the far post. Eagles continued to press but although chances were created they went into half time still a goal down.
The second half began as the first half ended and Eagles finally got their reward 20 minutes from the end when Carl Williams collected a pass from Den Crook and scored with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Bovingdon then equalised with another breakaway goal before in the last 10 minutes Jamie Platt looked to have secured a point for the Eagles when he forced home a shot from close range.
In a cruel twist of fate in the dying seconds Sam Gittings hit the post, the ball rebounded into play, was thumped up field, and the Bovingdon no 9 scored with the final kick of the game, completing his hat trick. Once more Eagles luck was out, but fortunately other results at the top end of the league were in their favour. Their last game of the season is next Saturday at home against second placed Belstone ko 3pm.
