AUBREY CUP 2ND ROUND
Eagles progressed comfortably into the next round of the Aubrey Cup with most of the possession against Division 1 side Hinton, although the wet slippery conditions made it difficult for both sides to keep their feet and play at pace.
Eagles dominated possession in the first half without testing the keeper. A direct free kick was hacked off the visitors goal line after 15 minutes and Sam Gittings went close with a low shot after 25 minutes which went wide of a post. On the half hour a high cross from Liam Huckle caused the Hinton keeper to flap at the ball as it flashed wide of the far post but a goal finally came just before half time when Lee Pateman poked the ball in from near the penalty spot, taking a deflection off a defender.
Hinton seldom threatened the Eagles goal but early in the second half keeper Paul McGennity had to make a good save with his legs to prevent an equalising goal. Pateman then flashed a direct free kick from 20 yards just wide and after 55 minutes it was 2-0 when Jamie Farrar netted from close range after Gittings ran clear down the left and crossed the ball low to the feet of Farrar who could not miss .Eagles continued to create chances, with Farrar heading over the cross bar after receiving the ball from Sam Day.
A third goal for the Eagles came when sub Kadeem Gutzmore ran down the right wing and crossed low into the path of Pateman who scored from close range.
Eagles keeper did not have much to do but had to make a smart save from a deflected shot from 12 yards , and soon after Hinton missed a great chance when a cross from the left was hammered over the cross bar from 10 yards as the Eagles defence relaxed.
