HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREM DIVISION
Eagles unbeaten run since the beginning of the season continues, and but for some excellent saves by the home keeper they would have recorded another high scoring victory. The first half was goal less despite Eagles creating some good opportunities to score, but they were dominant for the last 30 minutes and Eagles keeper Paul McGennity was not put under great pressure.
Striker Scott Piggott signalled his intentions in a very early dash down the right side beating a defender for speed but sending his shot from the edge of the penalty area over the crossbar. Ray Antcliff was unlucky not to open the scoring for the Eagles when he cut inside a defender and his shot destined for the far corner of the net was hacked of the Belstone goal line by a covering defender.
Sam Nicholls beat a defender on the goal line to cross to the near post but River Amis- Robinson failed to connect with a close range bicycle kick. Just after the half hour Piggott was put clear down the centre of the field, rounded the home keeper but failed to slot the ball into the net from a narrow angle. Amis – Robinson made a dash down the right side, outpaced a defender and hit a low cross into the home penalty area, but Craig Cawcutt side footed the ball wide of goal.
Just before half time Piggott had another chance to score but as he ran clear of the Belstone defence he was cynically fouled a few yards from the edge of the Belstone penalty area. The free kick by Carl Williams flashed inches wide of the post.
Early in the second half Belstone squandered a good chance when clear on goal but the ball was placed inches wide of the post as McGennity advanced. Soon after Eagles went ahead when a Williams free kick towards the far post resulted in a clear penalty when an Eagles player was shoved in the shoulder blades. It was cleanly dispatched by Piggott. Eagles then piled on the pressure. Antcliff beat several defenders but his shot was saved by the feet of the keeper. Nicholls had a low shot beaten out and the goal bound rebound was blocked by a covering defender.
Eagles were not to be denied and a cross by Nicholls was headed home by Piggott at the far post. On the hour it was 3 -0 to the Eagles when a cross cum shot by Antcliff from near the right side of the penalty area sailed over the head of a stranded keeper into the far corner of the net. Piggott had a low shot saved by the keeper, who then saved well to push away a shot from the edge of the penalty area by Nicholls. Eagles attacked at will, as Piggott had another shot well saved when in clear sight of goal after receiving a pass from Williams and good work by new signing Milo Keane. The keeper produced another good stop to deny Amis- Robinson and in the final minutes Keane dribbled through a static defence only for his shot to produce another excellent save by the keeper.
