HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREM DIVISION
Eagles left it late to beat a poor Bedmond team in a game littered with free kicks, mainly for fouls committed by a very physical opposition.
In the first 15 minutes neither keeper was troubled until Eagles Ray Antcliff let fly from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was straight at the keeper and easily parried. Bedmond relied on the long ball and breakaway attacks out of defence and should have done better with a shot from 12 yards which well over the Eagles cross bar, soon followed by a shot screwed well wide of the far post. At the other end Joe Tyler placed his shot just wide of a post after expertly turning inside a defender. Another Antcliff free kick was comfortably saved by the keeper and by half time neither side had managed to open the scoring.
After half time another Antcliff free kick low towards the corner of the net passed just wide of the near post into the side netting, and Eagles began to pile on the pressure leaving keeper Paul McGennity with little to do. Dami Fajobi looked to have scored but the keeper flung himself across his goal to turn the ball round a post. Sub Craig Cawcutt then hit the cross bar with a fierce shot after collecting yet another free kick, but finally 15 minutes from the end River Amis – Robinson made a fast break down the left flank and his pin point cross was emphatically headed into the net by Joe Tyler.
A second almost came immediately when Scott Piggott chased a ball down the centre but was sandwiched between 2 defenders and the keeper near the Bedmond penalty spot. He managed stick a foot out to push the ball towards the empty goal but the ball did not carry enough speed and the keeper managed to get down and scramble the ball past a post. Another Eagles free kick into the home penalty area almost produced a goal when Amis- Robinson stuck out a leg to push the ball into goal from close range, but the home keeper made another good stop to push the ball round a post.
Eagles finally made sure of the win in the final minutes when a corner was collected by Antcliff who crossed the ball into the penalty area for sub Liam Huckle to majestically head home from near the penalty spot.
Eagles were still not finished and a shot by Sam Nicholls flashed wide of the post after Piggott had robbed a defender and pushed the ball through to him.
