HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREM DIVISION
After an even first half Eagles brought on 2 substitutes and changed formation for the second half, and ran out comfortable winners against a side lacking in discipline, conceding 2 goals in the last 15 minutes when down to 9 men because of red and yellow cards
Eagles started brightly and scored in the first 10 minutes when James Endacott took the ball into the home penalty area and his low cross was swept in from 6 yards by Scott Piggott. Winger Milo Keane caused Weston some problems on the flank and his low cross was swept high over the crossbar by Endacott when given a clear sight of goal. After another sprint down the wing Keane’s low shot screwed across the face of goal and the far post.
Weston counter attacked and went level when a direct free kick was headed in at the far post around the 20 minutes mark
River Amis- Robinson took the ball past several defenders in a mazy dribble but Joe Tyler blasted the final pass high over the crossbar. Weston counter attacked and just before half time when a cross was not cleared and the ball had to be scrambled away by desperate Eagles’ defenders. There was then drama in the opposite penalty area when a poor back pass put Endacott clear on goal inside the penalty area but he was brought crashing to the ground by a Weston challenge. It looked a clear penalty but Eagles’ claims were waved away by the match referee.
Weston opened the second half well and just after the restart a direct free kick whistled just past the Eagles’ goal. Carl Williams then delivered a corner on to the head of Dami Fajobi at the far post but his header smacked against the corner of cross bar and post before rebounding into play. Weston failed to clear their lines and after a scramble in the goal area the ball was poked into the net from close range by Joe Tyler
Play swung from end to end and Weston were unlucky when Fajobi was outpaced down the wing and the final shot was dragged wide of a post.
An unmarked Joe Tyler then headed a Sam Nicholls cross just over the cross bar as Weston tired, and Piggott put the ball in the Weston net only to be ruled offside. He then made a great attempt to bring down a pass and shoot for goal but the ball went narrowly wide. Weston responded when sub Jack Gregson had a fierce shot parried away by Eagles’ keeper Paul Mcgennity but the next Eagles goal was not long delayed and after 75 minutes a cross by Amis- Robinson was pushed into the net by Endacott from close range. It was soon 4-1 to the Eagles when a fine low strike by Tyler from the edge of the penalty area found the far corner of the net.
Eagles relaxed and almost conceded a second goal when the defence switched off allowing Weston a clear run on goal. The lobbed shot had to be finger tipped away from goal by Mc Gennity. As Weston went down to 9 players Eagles’ got another goal in the final minutes when Piggott turned in another low cross into the home net from close in. The keeper then had to push away a fierce shot by Sam Nicholl as Eagles threatened to over run their tired opponents.
