FA VASE
EAST THURROCK COMMUNITY FC 0 LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 3
Eagles dominated much of the play against their opponents from Essex and ran out comfortable winners of this cup game.
They first threatened the opposition goal after 13 minutes after gaining possession near the touchline at the helf way line. A long pass down the centre was then carried into the penalty area ending with a shot from the edge of the goal area which the keeper had to push away for a corner. Eagles continued to attack the East Thurrock goal with a shot from the edge of the penalty area going wide of the target and then following a low cross into the penalty area a low shot from near the penalty spot was deflected wide of goal by a home defender.
On the half hour Eagles did score with a break down the right side by Lawrence Burton, who finished the move with a fierce shot into the far top corner of the net. Minutes before half time East Thurrock could have equalised when a forward was put clear on goal, but his shot from inside the penalty area was well stopped by Eagles keeper Jordan Hudson at his near post before he fell on the ball at the feet of an onrushing forward following up the loose ball.
The second half began much as the first half ended with Eagles doing most of the attacking. A long throw into the home penalty area was headed by a covering defender straight to an Eagles forward whose shot from inside the penalty area went just too high and wide of goal. But six minutes later Eagles did add to their score with a long ball down the centre chased by Jan Maertins, who expertly lifted the ball over the head of the advancing keeper into the empty goal.
East Thurrock created the occasional chance to score, and a swift counterattack gave a forward an opening after he out foxed a defender near the Eagles goal line. His shot for the far corner of the net was blocked by Hudson standing at his near post before being cleared by an Eagles defender.
In the final stages of the game Eagles got a third goal when a long ball into the East Thurrock half was followed by a low cross into the penalty area that was tucked neatly into the net from near the penalty spot by Luke Baranowski. Minutes later a low shot from the edge of the penalty area hit the foot of the post of the home goal and rebounded into the arms of the keeper as Eagles ran out worthy winners.
