SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIV 1
EVERETT ROVERS 3 LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 0
Despite holding the unbeaten league leaders to a goal less draw at half time Eagles finally were beaten by 2 goals late in the game. Everett carried the greater goal threat through much of the game and Eagles struggled to test the home keeper.
Everett demonstrated their attacking strength after 10 minutes when they gained possession inside Eagles half and sent a forward clear on goal, but his shot from well inside the penalty area was high and wide.
At the other end after 16 minutes Eagles picked up a mis placed pass by Everett inside their half and Rory Gillham fired a low shot from the edge of the penalty area towards goal, which was fumbled by the home keeper near the foot of his post, but he managed to keep the ball out of the net.
Everett had another great chance after 22 minutes when a forward was put clear on goal but his shot from inside the penalty area was beaten away by Eagles keeper Adam Seymour. On the half hour again Everett had a clear run on goal and this time the low shot from inside the penalty area was held by Seymour at full stretch. Soon after a shot from the edge of Eagles penalty area went just wide of goal.
Eagles created few goal scoring opportunities but after 40 minutes Will Blair made a great run down the right side from half way, turned inside a defender to move inside the penalty area, but his final shot was just wide of goal.
Early n the second half Everett should have scored when a cross into Eagles penalty area was headed goalwards but straight at Seymour. A couple of minutes later a shot from 20 yards cannoned off an Eagles defender and the ball fell to an Everett forward whose low shot lacked power and was comfortably gathered by Seymour. Relief was short lived because 5 minutes later Everett scored with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area which beat Seymour’s despairing dive to find the back of the net. They soon nearly added to their score when with a clear run on goal an Everett forward blazed the ball high and wide from inside the penalty area.
Another clear chance was missed by Everett after a long ball had put a forward into open space in front of goal, but Seymour blocked his shot and the rebound went wide.
Late in the game Everett scored two quick goals. The first came after a corner was headed across the goal into the far corner of the net and then a shot from inside the penalty area 3 minutes later beat Seymour for the third time. They nearly added a fourth goal after a free kick from inside the Everett half was floated to the edge of Eagles penalty area and a shot from 20 yards passed high over Eagles cross bar.
