MATCH REPORT SAT 18 OCTOBER 2025

FA VASE

SOUL TOWER HAMLETS 3 LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 1

Eagles recent unbeaten run came to an end against a side which plays at a higher level and is top of the Essex Senior League, unbeaten this season. The team fought hard and only conceded the winning 2 goals in the later stages of the game.

There was little goalmouth incident until 17 minutes when a home team corner was headed over Eagles cross bar. At the other end after 23 minutes Rod Agyeman-Duah headed on the ball to Gabe Ryan who dragged his shot wide of goal from 20 yards out.

Eagles conceded too many free kicks near the edge of their penalty area and after 37 minutes were relieved to see the defensive wall do its job and deflect the ball wide of goal for a corner. Relief was short lived as a few minutes later they conceded another free kick in a similar position. This time a daisy cutter went through the defensive wall and into the corner of the net for the opening goal. Almost on half time the move was repeated but this time the low kick hit the defensive wall and bounced clear to safety.

Around the hour mark Eagles got a deserved equalising goal when a corner was headed on by Agyeman-Duah and Olly Humphryes hammered the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Midway into the half Eagles conceded a free kick near the half way line which was directed into the Eagles penalty area, but a header from the edge of the goal area was straight at George Coomes in the Letchworth goal. A few minutes later a long ball down field by Soul Tower Hamlets was headed clear from the penalty area but the ball ran loose to an opposition forward inside the penalty area, who placed his shot high and wide of goal.

As the game reached its final stages Eagles then conceded a couple of goals in a couple of minutes. Firstly, a free kick mid way inside Eagles half was directed low into the penalty area and the reaction of the Soul player was quicker than Eagles defenders as he side footed the ball low into the far corner of the net. It got worse soon after when Eagles lost possession in mid field, a Soul forward raced towards goal and was brought down just inside the penalty area. The penalty kick was dispatched low into the corner of the net.

Eagles did not give up and Agyeman-Duah had a late attempt to score  from the edge of the goal area, but his shot was straight at the home keeper.
