MATCH REPORT TUESDAY 14 JULY 2026
RAUNDS TOWN 0 LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 4
Eagles won the game in the first half and dominated weak opposition for most of the match.
Within the first 5 minutes they went ahead when a fine cross by Jake Feast gave Rory Gillham a simple header at the far post. They nearly scored again when a Raunds defender was dispossessed near half way and Eagles attacked downfield but the final shot from inside the penalty area was deflected wide for a corner. From the corner a shot went well wide of goal.
Another good chance to score came 5 minutes later when a low cross into Raunds penalty area found n Eagles forward but his low shot from near the penalty spot was straight at the keeper who collected the ball at a second attempt. Relief for Raunds was shortlived as 3 minutes later they conceded a penalty for a foul on an Eagles forward as he ran into the penalty area. The kick was stroked low into the corner of the net by Tomiwa Wellington. A couple of minutes later it was 3-0. An Eagles free kick mid-way inside the Raunds half was floated into the penalty area, not cleared by defenders and Arbnor Kerroli scored with a low shot into the corner of the net.
Eagles continued to press for more goals and shots either passed wide of goal or were straight at the keeper before the half time whistle.
After the restart Eagles should have scored a fourth goal after the restart when a cross to the far post was headed back into the middle to an unmarked forward, but his header hit the cross bar and rebounded back into play. Raunds seldom threatened Eagles goal but keeper Sonny May had to make a good save to keep out a shot from inside the penalty area following a Raunds corner.
A flowing move by Eagles then should have produced a goal resulting in a clear sight of goal, but the low shot from inside the penalty area was pulled wide of the far post. Two Eagles forwards then chased the ball downfield but facing only a single defender and the keeper the final pass went straight to the defender standing near the edge of the penalty area.
Raunds created the odd chance to score but a free kick was headed well wide of Eagles goal and in the final minutes the ball was chased down the centre of the pitch by a Raunds forward but he took too many touches of the ball and collided with May and a covering defender just inside the penalty area, and the ball ran out for a corner.
It was Letchworth that got the last goal of the game in the final minute when Gillham headed a cross into the net at the far post just before the whistle blew for full time.
