BECCLES 2 LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 1

In the first of a series of pre-season friendly games Eagles narrowly lost to a late goal as a draw looked the most likely result against their opponents from the Jewson League

In the early minutes Shay Kelly had an early chance but was beaten by the Beccles keeper to a 50:50 ball. Beccles then forced a couple of corners before going ahead after 14 minutes. Eagles defenders failed to attack a long throw in and Beccles scored with a simple tap in from 8 yards out. After 17 minutes Eagles defence was almost breached again by another long throw. Shortly after Redha Zikri was put clean through on goal but failed to get a shot away and the chance to equalise was lost, but within 3 minutes Eagles did get an equalising goal following good build up play. Zikri drew the keeper out and then passed to Kelly who had the simple task of a tap in to an empty net.

After a water break Beccles again caused Eagles problems with a long throw before Finn McGonigle got the ball into their net after 40 minutes, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Eagles then had 2 more chances to score in the minutes before half time, but first a shot was saved by the keeper who then comfortably dealt with an effort by Kelly.

Beccles started to dominate possession after half time and after Olly Humphreyes had sent a shot wide of goal Eagles keeper had to make a good save followed by a goal line clearance by Theo Nobbs. There was very little goal activity   from either side for the rest of the half until an added time winner for Beccles following a long ball downfield by their keeper.
