MATCH REPORT TUESDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2025
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIV 1
LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 4 BUCKINGHAM 1
Eagles returned to winning ways on a cold, wet and windy night, and completed the double over their opponents who they beat in September.
They went ahead in barely 10 minutes when a Will Blair free kick on the right side of the Buckingham penalty area was headed into the net from near the penalty spot by Austin Christie.
Buckingham started to come back into the game ad a free kick in a dangerous position some 20 yards from goal was cleared by Eagles defence, and then a corner was headed wide of goal.
It was Eagles who scored next after 25 minutes when Blair robbed a Buckingham defender near the edge of his penalty area, turned inside and then smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Both sides then had shots on goal which were off target before Buckingham were nearly penalised for another defensive mistake after 36 minutes. Possession was given away close to goal, and the keeper had to make a good save at full stretch to tip wide a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.
After 39 minutes Buckingham had another free kick 20 odd yards from goal but the final shot on goal flew over Eagles cross bar, as did a shot from a corner kick in added time before half time.
Buckingham wasted another free kick in a similar position to others in the first half, which flew high and wide after 57 minutes. Another free kick, this time from near the half way line, deep into Eagles penalty area looked more dangerous and caused a scramble for the ball before it was fired high over the cross bar. After 68 minutes Buckingham managed to pull a disputed goal back. They broke clear down the left side and a daisy cutter shot from the edge of Eagles penalty area beat keeper Adam Seymour and appear to hit the foot of the far post and rebound into play. Play was then stopped and a goal awarded after the assistant referee signalled that the ball had in fact crossed the goal line.
Buckingham then began to dominate the game as they pressed for an equalising goal, and Seymour had to parry a shot from just outside the penalty area. Eagles counter attacked and a few minutes later scored the decisive goal. Blair collected the ball on the right side of the field and turned inside a defender before his low shot was deflected wide for a corner that was headed into the Buckingham net at the near post by Olly Humphryes.
In added time they added a fourth goal. Seymour launched the ball downfield and found Rod Agyeman- Duah running down the centre. He turned into the penalty area past a defender and volleyed the ball into the top corner of the net.
