MATCH REPORT SAT 22 NOVEMBER 2025
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIV 1
LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 2 HUNTINGDON T 1
Eagles made hard work of beating lowly Huntingdon and after a good first half failed to take good chances to score in the second half.
Huntingdon threatened in the first 10 minutes of the game with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area going wide of goal and a minute later they seized on a poor pass inside Eagles half to send a shot straight at Adam Seymour in Eagles goal. At the other end an Eagles corner had to be tipped over the crossbar by the Huntingdon keeper. Eagles did succeed in scoring a few minutes later when Rod Agyeman-Duah picked up a pass from Will Blair, raced into the Huntingdon penalty area and shot low into the net.
The visitor’s keeper then had to be alert to push a far post header from a corner wide of goal. Just before half time he then saved a low shot by Blair from the edge of the penalty area. A minute later Blair did get on the score sheet when a long lofted pass from the left side of the pitch found him with a run on goal on the right side. He turned inside a defender and scored with a low shot from just inside the penalty area. Max Smith then had a shot from well outside the penalty area deflected wide for a corner and Luke Shimel fired wide from 20 yards distance.
Soon after half time a shot passed just over the Huntingdon crossbar but a minute later Seymour had to make a save with his feet after a pass mid-way inside the Eagles half was intercepted and the ball recycled to an unmarked forward inside Eagles penalty area. Facing an open goal his low shot was blocked by Seymour. Eagles then had a series of corners without being able to score a decisive third goal. There were goalmouth scrambles, and the ball was kicked off the Huntingdon goal line by a defender.
Play switched from end to end with Eagles looking vulnerable to the counter attack. A low shot was deflected wide by an Eagles defender and at the other end Agyeman-Duah headed over the crossbar and an open goal at the far post. But it was the visitors who got the next goal following a swift move down the centre of the field and a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Agyeman-Duah had a shot parried by the keeper with no other Eagles forward in a position to pick up the rebound, and twice the Huntingdon keeper flapped at corners, before the ball could finally be cleared upfield. Seymour then had to dash out of goal to clear a long ball down the centre from the feet of an onrushing forward. As the game approached its final stages Huntingdon lost their discipline. A mass brawl resulted in a red card for a Huntingdon player and not long after their manager ran on to the pitch and assaulted a Letchworth player. He too got a red card from the referee.
Eagles pressed with a series of corners in the final minutes but failed to add to their score.
