MATCH REPORT SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER 2026
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIV 1
LETCHWORTH GC EAGLES 1 NEW BRADWELL ST PETER 4
MATCH ABANDONNED AT HALF TIME
The match started in bright sunshine but as the fog rolled in Eagles defence collapsed. By half time thick fog had descended, and the decision was made by the match officials to abandon the game.
The game started badly for the Eagles who were missing key players because of injuries, and they went behind as early as the 6th minute. New Bradwell played the ball down the centre of the field and a pass inside the defensive cover gave space for a clear run on goal and a low shot into the far corner of the net.
5 minutes later at the other end the keeper had to make an excellent save deny a close range shot and the ball was cleared upfield in a rapid counterattack, ending with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area which hit the foot of the post and out for a goal kick.
Eagles tested the New Bradwell keeper again after 24 minutes after taking a short corner and then a shot from the edge of the penalty area, but he was able to safely palm the ball clear of the top corner of the net.
4 minutes later New Bradwell scored through thick fog and got a 3rd goal minutes later after a misplaced pass by Eagles allowed a New Bradwell forward to run clear and send a low shot from 25 yards into the far corner of the net off the inside of the post.
New Bradwell thought that they had scored again when Jordan Hudson parried a shot to the feet of a forward standing a few yards away, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Relief for Eagles was short lived when New Bradwell did get a fourth goal after 40 minutes. Eagles managed to get a goal back when Stan Clare broke through the New Bradwell defence and scored from near the penalty spot, but all the efforts of both teams came to nothing as fog saved Eagles blushes.
