LGCE v Biggleswade Devs

17th August 2025

FT 3-0 (HT: 2-0)

Eagles faced a challenge with the squad’s third pre-season friendly against Prem side Biggleswade Development in the heat. Despite facing a team in the league above, Letchworth dominated the game and possession, pressing high with keeper Emily not having to deal with a single shot on goal.

Following an early corner from Biggleswade, Sharon collected the ball in the box, driving up the wing and crossing to find Ruby who skillfully fought through Biggleswade’s  defence to put the keeper under pressure and deliver Letchworth a corner. Tayla collected the ball outside the box and fired a shot, unlucky to not find the net, but setting up a corner. Eagles kept pressure in the box, narrowly missing again, but winning a successive corner which Daisy sent decisively into the box, Tayla finding the ball with a glancing header to score Eagle’s first 9 minutes in.

Letchworth kept the attacking pressure up, controlling the ball using pace and skill to play through the thirds and control the game. Daisy, and Ruby who was returning from a long injury, exploited the wings, finding gaps in Biggleswade’s lines to set up the strikers who were unlucky to miss multiple shots on goal.

Training ground practice on playing from the back paid off with Hope feeding an easy ball to Gracie who found space to send a looping shot into the back of the Biggleswade net at the 33rd minute.A fantastic debut goal for Gracie who has recently transitioned from our youth set up and into senior’s football.

Speed and skill on the ball gave Letchworth the edge over Biggleswade’s long ball game. Sharon, Elizabeth, and Kayah worked well on the right setting up regular plays to feed the ball in and frustrate the Biggleswade defence. Maisie and Maelie worked the midfield to set up scoring options for the Eagles, who could easily have scored a third before half time.

After switching ends Eagles started calmly, controlling the game and resetting ready for Biggleswade to put the pressure on. But it was the Eagles who continued to dominate, holding play in the final two thirds, with Ruby, Stacy and Gracie continuing to look dangerous. With little to worry about, Hope and CC were able to make regular runs up the wings, setting up shots for the strikers.

After a Biggleswade throw, Tayla controlled the ball with a head to Maelie’s feet, who turned and delivered a wonderful the ball to Gracie in open space. Gracie exploited the gap and made a great attacking run through the centre to score Letchworth’s third, and her second, 66 minutes in.

After putting in a solid shift in the heat, and keeping up the work, the teams agreed to call the game after 72 minutes to protect Biggleswade from injury. Letchworth are grateful to the visitors for helping our pre-season preparations and wish them a speedy recovery and well for the coming season.
