Leighton Woodside

LGCE v Leighton Woodside

10th August 2025

6-0 FT (2-0 HT)

The Eagles took on Leighton Woodside in the second of their pre-season friendlies, putting the lessons learned from the Langford game into practice to deliver a solid 6-0 home win.

After a strong defensive start Eagles battled for midfield possession, building the pressure with a shot on goal just 7 minutes in. Eagles dominated the midfield, keeping the pressure up with CC collecting the ball and delivering a solid drive up the wing to cross the ball into the box. Great team work wrong footed Leighton’s defense for Tayla to fire the ball into the net after 11 minutes.

Following a confident restart, Eagles kept the pressure up with Maisie holding the midfield and working the wings to feed Sharon the ball. Great skill and a brilliant turn on the ball beat Leighton’s midfield and Sharon floated the ball over the backline and past the keeper for Eagle’s second at 14 minutes.

The squad’s confidence grew, dominating possession in the middle third with Maisie working as playmaker to send another dangerous ball down the wing, just too long for Eagles to capitalise on.

After the water break Leighton managed to loop a slow ball over the defense which Nicole collected with ease. Solid battling in the midfield from Sharon, Stacy, Maise and CC, with excellent defensive cover from Lauren kept Eagles in possession for the majority of the first half.

Eagles dominated the second half holding possession in the midfield creating opportunities and finding space to play the ball across the floor. Hard work paid off after Maise picked up a loose ball from Leighton’s defense to find Sharon who controlled the ball showing great individual skill from outside the box for Eagles third at the hour mark.

As Leighton began to tire, Eagles picked up a corner, with Tayla exploiting chaos in the box to poach Eagles fourth in the 70th.

Letchworth kept cool heads, controlling the tempo with the back line rarely troubled, midfield and forwards keeping Leighton under pressure. After a handball in the box, Lauren E stepped up and beat the keeper sending the ball into the bottom corner from the penalty spot to deliver Eagle’s fifth with 7 minutes remaining.

Leighton worked hard to close down Eagles in the final third, bringing down Laurne E, with the ref giving a free kick to the Eagles. Tayla stepped up and sent a flying ball top bins past the keeper to close the game out 6-0 in the 87th.

This was a confident performance with the Eagles dominating possession in the final two thirds of the pitch. The squad continues to grow, with brilliant partnerships forming to deliver strong passing, working the pitch to set up great attacking play.
